The Key on my Keyboard that sends the discussion before it is finished.

Okay myLotters I am desperate! I sometimes write a post and am getting really in to it, having the sentences just right and my point made, but before I finish it, I press the wrong key on my keyboard and it goes off into the netherworld and is deleted. I am a touch typist so I do not look at the keyboard, only the computer screen, so could you tell me what horrible key this is so I can avoid it? It is driving me nuts.

It happens to me too. It is not the mistake of the computer but the mistake of the operator. As you said the touching of the wrong key,it goes off. Sometimes, due to a slight touch of combination of keys (which we are not aware) the system restarts, probably it is Ctrl+alt+del or someother key. I know it is my mistake, but this it is cumbersome, I would not have saved the typed matter in the window. There is no other go than to re-do it and also to be more careful with keyboard.

I wish it were as easy as the Ctrl, alt, del. because in that cases, I have to go from the left to the right hand, and this only happens on the left side of the keyboard. If I were not a touch typist, I could peck one key at a time and find out. I have to see if there is a hot key substitution for myLot commands to see what key it is.

I'm also practicing touch-typing, though I'm not yet much into it. I still have hard time in looking for the NUMLOCK, I still go by those numbers which are located on the top of the lettered keys. But as for your question, I believe you're touching the DELETE button instead of the ENTER key. That also happens to me, especially when I already feel like my hands are already flying on the keyboard!;)

Thanks for that information. I will have to test it out.

dear its not a very big problem, its just a small key which gets pressed at the wrong time and it may be any key. the important thing is that you try typing on ms word or any other text editor and check whether what you are typing is correct or not.

I could do that. I usually just type in the myLot box and I use the spell checker, which I am unsure is provided by myLot when you get so many posts, or whether it was an extension to Firefox.

Fingers on the home keys! - fingers on keyboard
It sounds like you just need more practice on the keyboard. The touch method is the only way I know of typing and have never had the problem. You have to make sure to keep your fingers on the "home keys" where only the letters are. That delete key shouldn't be anywhere near them. Good luck.

I switched from the ego --well that nice large curvy keyboard that Microsoft makes to this blasted small Compac keyboard and I had some time adapting to that. In fact, I sometimes have trouble with the question and the right carat keys because they are so close together and it is not the delete key. It is the bsckspace key. It does not just delete the last letter, it deletes the whole blasted discussion.

I have found that the tab key is my enemy...I have deleted many by touching the tab key..I don't look at my keyboard either but have found this to be the key...The enter key may be a possiblity..

Hi Suspenseful, Perhaps its the control button? Are you tabbing something and then possibly hitting the enter button? Im not really sure, this has not happened with me. Im a touch typist too and so I dont watch my hands while Im typing. I sure know how annoying that can be so I hope you can figure it out soon. Good luck! Bay xx

Okay I will try it. No hitting the tab and enter brings up the image upload. So that is nice to know.

It is not the control button nor is it the backspace. It could be a combination. I will figure it sometime.

The exact same thing has happened to me several times! There I go happily posting and I am well into my third paragraph and VOOOM! I press some key--I do not even know which one--and the whole thing disappears! Too bad there is no control save button on myLot....when that happens I just give up and go to sleep--LOL!

I know what key makes things disappear after I finished, but this key not only deletes, it sends me right back to the previous page, so I have to start on again. If I finished and pressed the enter key, but not the post comment it will send me back to the previous page, and I can use forward until I get to the page after, put in the "best coffee, Tim Hortons, Arabian vs Colombian" or whatever it is and the post will appear. This happens before I press the post comment, and after I press the enter key.

That is what I think, but what one. Maybe I have to write a silly post, but then I would not want my post to be deleted.

I found that I have to avoid the backspace key, but there could be another. I know it is not the tab key, that has been suggested and I tried it.

I often do this too, and it is so frustrating!!!! I found that what I was probably doing was hitting the pad on my laptop and then when I think that I have made a mistake I will hit backspace and the whole lot disappears!!!! I have done this so many times!!! Sometimes I will rewrite it other times I will just give up!!!

T really hate when it does that. I have no idea what key or keys. All I suspect it has something to do with the left side.

The tab and enter brings up the image upload, so it is not that. I think it is the backspace, but that is on the right side, so there could also be another set of two hot keys.

If its the left hand side, keep an eye on your 'tab' button. That moves across the screen each time you press it. Maybe thats the problem??? If you hit the tab button and it moved, and then you hit the return button then that could be why your losing your stuf... :-)

You're not alone suspenseful. It happened to me too and it pissed me off especially if the entry I made is too long and I put my heart in writing it. I really don't know what happened but as far as I know I only hit the preview or submit button. I observed, it happened when I had the page hold on for a long time before hitting either of the preview or submit button. Well, I am not sure if it makes sense. So, right now I just avoid keeping my entry long before hitting any button.

I do not think I hit the preview or submit button prematurely. What I think is there are hot keys for those whose mouse does not work, but I have no idea what ones they are, and I am hitting them by mistake.

The trouble is when I am typing, I can use the backspace key and it just backspaces. It is when I have finished the post and I have already pressed the enter, and then my finger goes to the backspace and everything is deleted, but there has to be another one on the left side.
