It is a fact that everyone needs money in everyday life. We go to work and earn money. But what if one fine day, you found a bag containing lots of money. What will be your first reaction? Will you keep it or be a good citizen and surrender it to the police? Honestly for me, I don't know what I will do. Probably at that point of time, I will not consider myself a good citizen. lol.

Well having had this happen to me on at least two major occasions, once when I left my wallet on the roof of my car after filling up with petrol at the petrol station and didn't realize until I returned home, of course the first thing I did was to cancel all the credit cards I knew were in the wallet and didn't really expect to hear anything more about it, about an hour later I got a phone call from someone asking had I lost my wallet (I had an address and contact card on the inside of my wallet) as they had just found one and called the number inside, when I went to go and collect it I was amazed to find all of the credit cards and the money still inside and could thank the guy who had called me to return it enough!!!!!!!! The second time was at a Ski resort in Canada where I left my backpack at the bottom of the resort on the racks and then completely forgot abut it and went of up the slopes, by the time I had realized what I had left behind it didn't seem worth going all the way back down collect what must by have been an empty backpack by now, but to my surprise when I returned at the end of the day there was my backpack in the same place with everything still inside!!!! So there are still some good honest people around these days and I wold like to think I would be like them and try to return the item untouched to its right full owner as was done to me, but as you said Ellie, you never can tell how you would behave until you actually find yourself in that situation - I hope I would act like a good citizen :-)

Finding money with no ID or clue as to who it belongs to I would probably feel is found money. However, if it is someones purse with ID and an address then I would feel obliged to return it

I know I would return a lost wallet to the appropiate place, usually Centre Management at a shopping centre. My 14 year old daughter was shopping about a month ago, & her wallet was accidently dropped oyut of her pocket. There was about $20 in it, plus her sdchool ID, which is very important.
Someone found it & returned it to centre management. I was very grateful.

yes, it is very worrying when we lost important documents like ID, not so much about the money. Some people might be that lucky like what happen to my sister. She lost her bag and in it there were her daughters' birth certificates, some money (about $500.00) and her ID as well. She lodged a police report but until now she never sees her bag again. Cheers.

Hi ellie, I'm not lifting my own chair here, but I'm totally afraid of the bad karma comes when I took something not belong to me. It's my believe since I was a child whenever I found that not mine and If I will kept it and not return to the owner, I will loose more than I kept. My parents thought me about that.

I have once found a wallet with lots of money, dollars for that matter, inside a bookstore in one of the malls in our country. The first thought I had was this might be a trap for me to be caught for any crime. I know that the said bookstore have security cameras, so I thought I might be apprehended if I leave the store with the wallet with me. so what I did, I just left it to the security guard. I didn't bother if he returned it to the owner or not. I was just afraid to be caught for a crime I haven't committed.

I would return the wallet with ALL the contents. I would hope that someone would do the same for me in the same situation.

If it had id in it, I would call the owners and return it. If there was tons of money, I would hope that they would give an award for returning it.
If I found some money and there was no id, I would probably not call the police. I would consider it my lucky day.

I would have to ask exactly how much money was involved, provided the money came with no ID(If there was an ID, of course I would return it, reguardless of the amount). If the amount was only around 20 or 40 bucks. Chances are I would keep it, because that a somewhat insiginificant amount in the long run. If it had an excess of amount of like 100(if it were twenty or fourty bucks, sure I'd be upset, but I know it wouldn't break me for the week. If it were 100 or more, I'd be seriously strained as I'm one of those people who live paycheck to paycheck right now), I would turn it in to the proper authorities.
I don't know how it works in some areas, but someone, once the money was turned in, would have a certain period of time to claim it. If they didn't in that amount of time, as the founder of the money you would be able to keep it(unless it was like massive amounts. I'm not sure what the cut off amounts would be, but certain amounts when turned in would call for investigations to make sure the money isn't linked to robberies and the like).

If I found a wallet with an id I would return it to the rightful owner. Now if I just found money laying on the ground or in a bag with no id i would probably keep it.

I would left ID to down and take some money and put also that down. Of course, i would firstly check is someone searching for, taking little money from someone else wont make harm to me or to him/her. If I'll see wallet with 2 euros I will probably take it back to info, 20 or 50 euro would be nice to get. lol. "Not an criminal" - citizen.

I have found a wallet filled with so much money you could not close it. It was around christmas one year and me and my sister went to the post office (a very large one) and got the stamps and went to the tables to stick them on when we found it and I went to the staff and hand it over.

It once occured to me .I was going to have lunch.I opted for a hotel which was quite away from town in a serene area with no hustles of the city.As i was about to enter I found a bunch of notes bound by rubberband. Each note was of tens and the whole bunch would probably value around 500.Such was the proportion of this thick fat bundle of money and it was lying near the doorstep as if it was deliberately kept there.I wondered if the hotel was closed but to my surprise it was packed.I took the notes went to the counter and told them I had found this on the doorstep. The boy at the counter didnt get what I was talking about.I then turned around and made an announcement.Soon the loser ran towards me and was so delighted. I asked him how did he lose such a big bundle of notes. He said nothing. But I didnt suspect him as no one in the hotel seemed to claim for the money. He was content and i was more than happy cos he sponsored my lunch. Being good is satisfactory.

If I found a wallet with an I.D. I would return it, now if I found a bad with lots of money, first I would wait to hear any news on tv or radio about it, in case no one was looking for it, i would give it to charity, there are millions of people who need food and other things, I'm sure that money would help.

I would turn it in to the police. I know I would want someone to do the same for me. I know that sometimes, if the item/s isn't claimed after a certain period of time, then it goes back to who ever found it.

When I was young lol about 15 or so, me and my friend was out running in a nearby wood. We trained there every week and ran around the lake there.
At the end of the lake there was an old toolsshed for the old castle gardner.
We used to have a break there and sit and talk.
One time we got to that place it was filled with all kinds of mo-ped related items. helmets, spareparts, oil, gazoline, paints and so on.
We had no clue what to do, and finally told it to my dad (who is a cop)
But being in the family I am in, we were actually questioned about it rather than thanked, and later on when both thieves and haul had been taken by the police we onlyl heard of it because my friends mom contacted my dad to hear more lol.
Id say even if I found a bag full of money, id turn it in. I dont really care much about money, and dont need more than I already have. And that bag of money might be sorely missed by someone else.
I honestly dont understand the greed of most ppl. What does money give you that you cant get otherwise? besides hardware and brag-rights. But does either make you happy?

I am just like you. It depends on the mood at the time when I find that bag. But i believe mostly I will try to give that back to the owner, if I can find him/her myself. I dont believe in giving it to someone else to hand it over to the correct owner.

I seem to be always living pay check to pay check. It would be nice to have a large amount of money come my way. But I also know how much it would hurt me if I lost a large amount. I wouldn't be able to pay rent, utilities, etc.
So I would surrender it to the police. I wouldn't want to hurt soemone else by keeping it.

I'd be tempted to take it at first, but since I fear karma (you'll reap what you sow), then I'll go to the police anyway. I'm more afraid of taking what's not mine 'coz I've been burnt before once and for me, once is enough he he he he he...

if there's an identification in the bag then i would personally return the bag to the owner. i dont trust the police to return it to the owner. and i have lost so many wallets in my life that i know how it feels to hope that one good person will return the wallet, even if just the IDs, cards, etc. those are things that i find too inconvenient to lose.
