I was compeled to start this discussion because the more and more I think about the story I am about to tell you the more and more I get rielled up!!! Here goes....
I wont mention any specific company names as to not damage their reputations,(not that I care at this point).
Ok so i ordered a Playstation 2 console from a company that sells electronics, computers, accessories, etc. They have their own credit and i have a perfered account with them. Well my husband and I are Phantasy Star online junkies and the system was for him becasue while playing Monday evening his just stopped working. We have an addiction to the game and I got right on the internet and ordered it with next day shipping and everything,(meanwhile we were borowing a friends, who also has an addiction to playing online but to poker) So we needed to get it here fast, and didnt have the money to go any buy one at a store right at the moment.
Just to give you a little discription of my home the place that this console was going to be delivered, it is a large house, the front entrance near the road has a big roofed porch and we have lawn chairs and a table on it. It is conpletly accessable, and used daily. The back of the house where the second entrance is has no porch or steps, and when it rains the water drips right over the door cause the gutters need replacing, but or hunting dog is tied right there too, so we just have to open the door and let him out. Our pull off drive way is there and we use it to go and come but everyone else uses the front.
It was raining today, but the dog was still out becasue the weather was warm and he has a box to go in out of the rain. I had an early morning dentist appointment so i knew I would not be home till around 12, 2 of my children went to school one to a sitter and the hubby to work. I had no worries about the package being delivered becasue I have ordered fom this company several times and the company that delivers for them has delivered to us several times, even when we have not been home. I used the tracking numbers to track the delivery progress before leaving in the morning and due to that I knew that it would be there waiting for me when I got home unless something were to happen. My appointment took a little longer then usual and I had no intention in returning home before going to pick up my one child at headstart but I stopped to check(basicly get the package) if it had came and i would put in the house before leaving again. I just pulled out front and too my surprise it wasnt there and that made me wonder, so i pulled out back the house casue I had this weird feeling that they might of left it there for some reason and sure enough, there it was. But it was no longer in the shipping box and the PS2 box itself was half gone and there were chewed wires every where. The console itself was still kinda in the packaging but there was big bite marks and scratch marks on it. I was instantly fired up and a few words came out of my mouth that shouldnt have and the dog got in big trouble. Then of corse i called the company i ordered from and got all their appologies and bla bla bla, which dont change the fact that they now have to send another one and I paid alot of money to be sure to get one the next day.
I just cant believe that someone could be that stupid to leave a package in the rain, in a place that there was water running like a faucet, and where there is a dog that could get it, when there is a dry safe place, with no dogs, that had to of been seem when pulling into the alley to get to the back of the house where they left the package.

That would of made me very upset espically knowing it was a PS2. I have one myself. It sounds like it is the delevery person. I would contact the company who delivered it and tell them about this.

I did contact the delivery comapany and I got alot of Im so sorries and bla bla bla, but I do understand after ready everyones responces thus far that they have to get their job done, but it would of taken a matter of 1 minute to walk around to the other side of the house and put the package there, where it would have been safe. I orderd the item on Monday evening and paid for next day I got or well the dog got the package on Wednesday which was in the right amount of time but with what happened we are still waiting now to get the new delivery and here it is Saturday.

First of all, if I were the delivery guy, I would not have left it at all. I would not want to be responsible for what happened to it if no one was home. It was not very bright to leave it out in the rain, but I would not have thought the dog would bother it either.
If I knew that there was a chance that I may not be home and I had to have it the next day, I would have had it delivered to a friend or family members house. Someone whom I had confirmed would be home at that time and someone that I trusted.

The dogs that we have are my hubbys and i am really not a dog person mainly because of all the bad experiences that we have had with dogs, i havent met one yet that didnt chew up something, or do their "business" in the wrong place, amoung other things, so i guess if i were the delivery person i would think the dog would bother it especialy a 75 pound full size full blooded blue tick coondog, but ok maybe they might not know dog breeds but the size of the dog itself would of set off a warning sign, i guess there is a small possibility that the dog didnt come out of its box and greet the delivery person, but there isnt a person that comes to the house that he dont feel the need to jump on, lick, or whip with his tail, so i highly doubt that. But everything is resolved now and I will be sure to note every order that it is to placed on the front PORCH.

They should not have left the package at all, that is the first rule when delivering anything. Either way the delivery person is responsible. This is why people have to sign a delivery slip. It affirms that the package was in good shape when delivered.

I always thought this as well until, one day i was waiting for a package from the same company delivered by the same carrier and I waited and waited and waited and it seemed that it wasnt coming until i went out on the porch to go and get my daughter off the bus and there it was. They had just brought it up onto the porch and left it. They didnt even bother to knock or anything. It is hard to hear if someone comes onto the porch so had i not needed to go out there I probually wouldnt have found the package. And it was a fairly pricy item.

The delivery person must not care about his job.
There are some people who would have called and claimed they had not received their package and the delivery company would have to pay for them another item.
I know of a guy who did this because they left the item on his stoop in the rain.
The item didn't get damaged but he said that's a lesson the delivery person wont forget.Since then if he wasn't there to sign off the item they would leave a notice
for him to pick up or call for a delivery time.

That sucks. What's fortunate is that you don't have to purchase a whole new one because they didn't take any claim on the unfortunate happenings of your first order. For that reason and that reason alone... I don't think your situation is so bad. I mean it's bad for sure, but it's not down right terrible you know?
For future purposes...just to make sure, you should place a note outside just to be sure that they don't do this ever again. Like if you order something and know it might be coming and you aren't home... you just put a note out back saying "Please place packages out front." it works normally.

It seems that they would know better, but alot of people do things without thinking. Maybe it wasn't raining and he could see you weren't home. Thought it was safer there. I would think that a roof would be better, but you never know what is going through there mind. Maybe nothing. Lol I am glad they are sending you another one, even though you have another wait.

Well that really stinks- Why did they deliver it outback? That is really odd—Perhaps they thought with the dollar amount involved- that it best be delivered out of sight? Can you file a claim with the delivery company? That it got wet and damaged? I don’t think you can file one for your dog chewing it- I mean—you should have put the dog away prior to leaving- that way the driver would not be afraid and it would not have gotten damaged.
Well I hope you got the new one ok—Your kids play too??

I am not surprised at all. I used to work for a huge world famous store that also had call centers for their internet store. We got calls all the time, especially at holiday times. UPS and the post office are the world's worst, especially UPS at leaving packages out in the rain, out in plain site for anyone to steal, leave it for the dogs to play with, deliver it to the wrong house, you name it. I would contact them and give them a royal big headache about this, they deserve to send you another one ASAP and free shipping, give you credit on your account for shipping or some other compensation for your troubles and distress over the situation. Trust me, they are used to doing this to please their customers. You know an unhappy customer can be very bad for business. I'm sorry this happened to you. Best of luck with resolving it.

That is the delivery person, and I don't blame you for being upset.
My son was a latchke kid from the age of 7, one year I ordered a computer, the delivery guy left it leaning on the door. My son came home from school early, due to snow, I could not get there cause of snow. He called me from a neighbor's house, he could not get in the house because of the heavy boxed that were under almost a foot of snow in front of the door. He was in tears, he felt he would get in trouble, in his mind he was the man of the house and should be able to handle things like this.

It makes you wonder how these ppl manage to get out of bed and out in the world every day. I'm glad their sending you a replacement and I'd find out which outfit delivered it and make a complaint with them too.

Hi Tina,
Sorry about your troubles with your delivery, but I agree that you have a valid complaint. A little common sense goes a long way, but when your boss tells you that you have only so much time to get something done, like delivering a truckload of packages, then you have to attempt to get your job done in that amount of time or you won't have a job to worry about. So this delivery person was just trying to get his job done. I'm not saying he is not at fault for what happened, just that it may not have been his choice.
Upper management, these days, have a push to do the most with the least. They keep cutting jobs, and putting more responsibilities on the people that remain. Their ultmate goal is to reduce their cost at all cost, and make more money for themselves. The big companies grow and the little people are still getting stepped on.
I see the same in the company that I am presently working for. They keep reducing the amount of people on a crew and still expect you to accomplish the original goal that was set for a larger crew. Why? So the product can be cost-effective.
I do hope that all turns out well for you, but it is a shame that you had to go through this in the first place. Don't hold a grudge against the company that you buy from since it sounds like they are going to make this good. And feel sorry for the delivery person that has an impossible task on hand.
Happy posting..
