smell of wet soil

I can smell the rain before it comes. It is a wonderful smell like no other. You're right with me in feeling that it lends a peaceful feeling. I can remember smelling it and teaching my daughter of that smell. The cool air following is very refreshing.

After a shower of rain, we can always smell the the wet soil. But I don't like the smell on the street after a rain. It smells so fishy. I am glad that you enjoy the soil smell after rain as it is refreshing and relaxing to you.

I like the smell of the earth which is an indication that it is going to rain. I have been fond of this smell from childhood days.

i used to do that when i lived in the country severy years ago. it smell better in the spring. it is said it is first day of succession.

Soil and its smell when the first rain falls reminds me of my child hood. That smell is still fresh in my nose. My brother's wife was mad about wet soil after the first rains-infact the smell was so impulsive to her that she often would run and scoop some and eat. We thought she was crazy. But I want to agree with you, even to this day, that smell ushers in me a certain degree of well being personally, yes I love it.

I enjoy the smell of rain in the Spring, when everything is just starting to bloom and the air smells fresh and warm.... I'm not crazy about it in the fall, cause that usually means it's cold outside... but I very much enjoy it in the Spring! My husband loves to sit outside and watch thunderstorms... I don't! I'd rather watch them through a window! But he said that it makes him feel calm when he can watch all the magic around him...

funny, i have never smelled soil after its wet but I do like the smell of wet concrete after it rains. ahhhhh!

I can relate. In Texas in a normal year - this was a very wet summer here - that first smell of rain is just such a pleasure! Kind of ozonie/dustie/wet smell. Why dust? well, the soil is so dry at the very first that it kicks up dust for the first little bit!

i like rain... i always like it... i like the smell of wet soil and the sound of water that fall from sky... it's a kind of therapic!

Wow, u r veery right, when first drop of rain fall on thirsty earth, smell of soil spread all over and its so good that i love that smell, no fragnance is match to it u feel that whole environment get lively, i am lucky that still i can smell it on and off take care

That is one of the reasons that I love the rain so much! And where I live, it is cool and there is a lot of moss... the smell is heavenly!

after rain is beautiful, everything just as been wash by God, the grass and soil make a perfect aroma that relaxing and fresh at the same time. i like to watch the water falling from leaves, sky, and trees. Some times i found a little river on the soil erupted by water and did you hear the singing frogs? singing uniquely made by nature..

I know that smell that you're talking about but unfortunately I hate it. I dont like the smell of the wet soil cause it is somewhat irritating ti the nose. Every time the rain comes and the soil is starting to get wet and release that smell I usually sneeze and sneeze. Since that im also living in a tropical country and rainy days are so often, it sometimes annoy me every time the rain starts to pour...lol ^_^

I agree with you that smell of wet soil feels very good and it is different from any other odour. I like it too.

I've lived in indonesia almost all my life. And I too love the wet soil smell. Now that I'm living in the US, I actually feel homesick when it rains and the soil smells wet. Unfortunately that soil smell doesn't happen very often, the temperature has to be in the correct range, if it's too cold, it won't give out that smell...

Plumwish07, I'm a bit surprised to hear that you love the smell of soil getting wet. Most people hated it and they tend to go inside their houses just to avoid its smell. Surprisingly, I also love it!
