my bestfriend of 23 years will be migrating to another country in a month. she's been my bestfriend since college, and although i've transferred to different homes all over the country, we always kept in touch and we would meet up at least once a year. this time however, she's leaving for good. she's not totally happy about this move but because her parents and all her siblings are already in that country, she made the decision to go too. she's sad about leaving me and some other friends but she also sees this move as an opportunity that she could not pass up, since it's not easy to get into that country. so, the other day, as we both cried, i gave her a hug and wished her good luck on her new journey.

wow ! 23 years ?! cool !!
how great to keep the friendship for such a long time
i can imagine how sad you are right now,
when my best friend left for studying abroad,
i really miss him a lot and cannot imagine how boring my days will be without him
but after he left, things are as fun as usual
i kept in touch with him during his studying
we often chat through the msn, and sometimes made a phone call
the technology nowadays helps us to reach the other part of the world,
don't worry moira, friends are not always seen but they always there
cheer up moira725 ^^

I never say goodbye to friends and relatives who are leaving for abroad. I always wish them all the best in their endeavours and wish them big sucess and they can always rely on me for anything to be done here. After all the world has become close with all communications and the travel system, so we can expect them to come back once a year or two.

Wow! 23 years is certainly a record. You two are very lucky to have enjoyed each other's company for 23 years--that's longer than most marriages! Someone once said that you can choose friends but not your relatives and you are lucky that you found a friend who has been your best friend for that long! It is sad but true: some friends can be closer to you than family. I wish your friend all the luck, happiness and success in her new country. At least, you can keep in touch via the internet. Distance is relative--love and friendship transcend physical limitations. Take care....

thanks for reminding me that "love and friendship transcend physical limitations."
yup! 23 years is a record even for me. i've had many other friends, but my bestfriend stuck it out with me all through these years. even my getting married and having 6 kids did not drive her away. you see, she chose to remain single and goes out with other single friends on a weekly basis. but she always has special time for me. yes, we have both been lucky to have had each other for such a long time. i'm very grateful for that day, 23 years ago when i was new at the university, and she came up to me and befriended me, as soon as i entered the room.

Thats so sad. I hope though that your friend has a safe trip and you can continue to keep in touch. I have a best friend that I've been friends with for 21 years. Right now we live 8 hours apart which isn't too bad. We see each other a few times a year. I hope that we can continue that way for the rest of our lives. She's always been like a sister to me.

hi ravinskye!
yes, my bestfriend has always been like a sister to me too. specially, since i only have 2 brothers. that's why she's the only one in this world who knows all my deepest, darkest secrets. i've been so lucky for having her during the ups and downs of my life.
thank goodness for the internet though. two decades ago, we were both very patient writing letters to each other whenever we were apart. now, at least, we can chat online anytime we want.:)
