I've Been Eating Leftovers?

I hate and despise leftovers in my house. Now that dad is not in the house it's hard to make a good dinner or supper for just myself as I hate leftovers and they usually go to waste. Well I had been craving one of my favorite meals lately. Meatloaf. I made me a 2 pound Meatloaf the other day and have been eating it since. I am on the last few pieces tonight. Now for my meatloaf I add a bunch of oyster crackers, an egg, and a package of dry onion soup mix to the ground beef. I mixt it completely together. Then I form it into whatever shape for the pan I am going to use. Then I make a small dip in the top of the loaf adding a can of cream of mushroom soup. No milk or water just the thick soup. I bake it for about 70 minutes at 350 degrees or until done. Now with the leftovers I have had mostly hot meatloaf sandwhiches. Today I will bake a potato and heat up a can of butter beans and make some biscuits. Ahhhh. I have to get used to left overs it seems. Anyhow do you like leftovers? How long does it take you to finish off them?

i live alone too and always eat my leftovers. I've never learned to cook small amounts of food so I always make way too much. Sometimes I do the same as you...bake a potatoe and have a veggie and maybe a salad with it. That's when there are no leftovers...lol...

I think I may have to start eating more veggies to avoid the
leftovers which usually get tossed out really soon. My wife
works 12 hours a day 6 days a week and just munches at night.
Seldom does she eat the leftovers. So most times they go to waste. Guess I have to eat healthy? Ugggh! HAHAHAHA!!

Geeze Grandpa, you're the second person I've ever heard that doesn't like left overs. What's wrong with you?? LOL!! Just teasing!! Don't you know that left overs taste better the next day? Yes of course! The flavor gets mixed in really good and viola! mmmm mmmm good!! We had a friend stay with us for a month and he didn't like leftovers and one night we had just that because our fridge was so full and this guy would only take a teaspoon of this and a teaspoon of that. lol It was so funny to watch and we told him, it's not going to bite you! He just grunted and ate that little bit and left the table. Anyway, why waste the food? It's good for at least 3 days if not more. You're being silly! LOL

Ever since I was little I did not like leftovers. Don't think
I ever will. The only things that I will eeat the next day and
only the next day are chili and soups that are home made. Dunno
just the way I am I reckon. I give a lot to my son when he drops in.
So it always wasted. Buster gets a lot too mixed with his dry food.

Well at your age I doubt you'll ever change now. It's ok though for it's to each his own, right? Besides, you're giving it to your son then it's not being wasted. At least someone is eating it. And good ole Buster gets some too! LOL

I always over cook and end up with left overs, when my husband is not here we will have leftovers every 2 days, other then that I forget about them and they become dog food

it sounds to me like you are doing a very good job with taking care of your leftovers. I too have had a hard time dealing with large amounts of leftovers, not because I don't like them, but with just me eating them I have to eat the same thing for days and days. As you know, that can get old pretty fast.
One thing I do to manage the leftovers is to freeze the meals that I know will freeze well. This way, I leave out enough for me to eat for a day or two and then I freeze whatever is left so that I can eat it another time and not get sick of it.
I'm glad that you are finding that you can enjoy your own leftovers. Have a great day.

I am not enoying leftovers and never have and never will. It's just
I was craving meatloaf. HAHAHA! I think that's the main reason for me not liking leftovers is the boredom with the same food day after day.

LOL! since you were eating all those sandwiches, I thought you were enjoying them. If I remember though, meatloaf freezes pretty well, so you can take a break from it if you need to.

Your meatloaf sounded really good. You know you could have frozen half of that loaf and then had it again in about a month. I have two to cook for now and I have a terrible time still cooking only for two. I like mixing things up a bit and freezing things. Chili freezes well as does Beef Stew. I have found fried chicken freezes well and needs to be thawed and heated in the oven to retain crispness. Your meatloaf would have been good broken up into a can of chili beans also. I am like some of the others, I hate wasting food. Sometimes I'll make such a large batch I share it with my oldest daughters family or the neighbor lady. Like my famous turkey noodle soup. Yum!
Happy cooking!!

A lot of mine go to waste because hubby is eating a lot of his meals at work. I take easy to fix stuff, or leftovers to work, but after awhile the idea turns my stomach. I love how your meatloaf sounds. I am going to go pull out some frozen dinners for eating at both of my jobs today. Oh, well. I expecially liked the mushroom soup addition to your meat loaf. Have a great day.

I eat lots of those grandpa, the cost of living here in my country is very high so we tend to eat whatever we have in our plates. To throw them is a waste, of money and life. Foods are very important to us, we eat left-overs and sometimes turn them into another recipe.

Hey Grandpa Bob, we have a great thing to do with leftovers, it is this new-fangled invention, that in this part of the country, we call a freezer.
I bought one of those vacuum machines for freezing things and we cook in bulk, throw it in the freezer and pull out what we want, when we want it. Quick, easy, healthy and cheap
We no longer buy things like sausage, we have a grinder, stuffer and make our own ground meat and sausage - much safer, healthier and cheaper.
The mushroom soup in the middle of the meatloaf sounds good...I will have to try that..I usually just make the souper loaf off of the package of onion soup mix

Hi Grandpa Bob,
First of all, your meatloaf sounds delicious. I'll have to try this someday. In answer to your question, yes, I do like leftovers, always have, and so does my daughter. Since there's just the two of us, I'll often cook something that'll last around three days. That means I don't have to cook for a couple of days, so it's great for me, and they taste great too. I can't stand to see food go to waste either, but you have some good ways of getting it used up too. Tonight, we're having homemade beef stew, and there'll be enough left for at least another meal as well.:)

years I worked at a breakfast restaraunt then a few years at
a Greek restaraunt as well. So I learned how to cook a lot
of various dishes.

We don't very often have left overs, as hubby & I are big eaters & probably gluttons.
If there are left overs, if it is some roast meat, it is easy to heat up the following day & do potatoes, etc with it. Cut up, cookec roast meat can be frozen too.
That is always a possibility for you with your left overs... freeze it in meal size portions.
The other method of dealing with left overs is easy... give it to the dogs. They love it.
I love meatloaf & your recipe sounds excellent.

We have leftover smorgasboard day at my house. If I have frozen the leftovers, they get warmed up for a second time around for supper about every four days. Sometimes, I *remake* the leftover into something completely different. I need to learn *not* to cook for an army, as it is just two of us. LOL

I'm not a big fan of most left overs either. But luckily for me, my husband and son both like them. So they eat them all, and we don't waste too much food. Of course I guess it really isn't "wasted" anyway since my dogs and cat eat most of it if it's still in the fridge three days after I originally made it.

Hmmmm, leftovers. I love eating left overs if its one of my favorite foods like pizza, lechon and fried fish. In my case it would greatly depend on the leftover. But if its one of those that I dont like, then, the thing is sorry for it will be put to the waste basket of given to the dogs for their enjoyment.
Wow 2 pounds of meatloaf, thta really hude grandpa bob, i dont think we have that size here in the Philippines, I dont think I would be able to eat whole of that in two weeks, well im not really a meat loaf lover like you, so I understand you have enjoyed eating that 2 pound meatloaf. I bet, your meat loaf tste so much better than what we have here in the Philippines. We only have the 250 grmas can and 400 grams can and thats the biggest, I have not seen soemthing like two pounds. I just cant imagine what it would look like.
Thank you for sharing grandpa bob and have a nice day!

Pizza leftovers? Ewwww! I still have a few slices of pizza in the fridge left over from last Saturday afternoon. HAHAHA! It may be growing by now. I eat a lot of beef so a 2 pound meatloaf is maybe 3 measl or 4 measl for me actually. I make burgers and get maybe 3 from a one pound package of beef. I love my beef.

I may eat the origional meal and some the next night but I ususally freeze most of the leftovers in individual containers and unthaw them when I am hungry for what's in the container. I make big batches of soup and it only takes a few minutes for me to unthaw them and I have a meal.
