I would recommend you take this free class from HP. This is a class with only six lessons which talks about how to build and design an effective website. You just have to sign up for a free account, though, but once you do and you go through the lessons, it might help you design an effective, traffic-attracting website. Design your site with better user interface. be careful about color combinations and make a good use of CSS. For better traffic do SEO [Search Engine Optimization].

Make sure that some of your content is relevant to your keywords for each of your web pages. Also, constantly change your content, so that your web site is not static for too long. I often add new links, and new items in my site. Maybe visit it in my profile...

i think it's all about content, people visit a site because they want to get something from it, so the first thing to do is determine who is your market target, and design your site for visitor and it's not for search engine, but still take close attention about seo thing

I would like to say a few points one should consider: 1. Design for a target audience. 2. Make it appealing and not cluttered. 3. Few text on the main page. Just enough to convery what the site is about. 4. Text Links with a description of inside pages. 5. Images should be not more than 50K. 6. Less Flash the better. 7. A link in the index should point to all pages, if not to a page with a sitemap. 8. Title on all pages relevant to the content. 9. Have it listed in all major search engines. 10 If the content is interesting and regularly updated you will drive more visitor to your site.
