Hi! If you love sweet and eat too much and you don't take any exercise, the answer to your question is definitely YES----yes, you'll have diabetes, probably appearing with other disease together(it's not appalling). However, don't worry about this if you have a healthy diet and don't take excessive sweet. It's advisable for you to make a physical check-up regularly.

Yes, I love sweets. and I cant avoid it. But I guess I just limit eating it(healthy diet as you have said) and exercise so that I wont get diabetes. And maybe I would consult a doctor about it. Thank you for your response. It really helps a lot.

Hey there, if diabetes runs in your family you have a high risk of getting it, if you don't already have it. You should be checked once a year through blood work to see if you have it or not. It's usually an 8-12 hour fast before the blood work is drawn. Eating sweets won't necessarily cause diabetes as long as you don't over do it or eat more sweets than anything else. Make sure you keep a good diet and limit your sweets intake, and you should be fine. But with a history of diabetes in your family, make sure you get tested, especially if you begin feeling sluggish, or have large energy changes, like going from very hyper and energetic to sluggish right away or going from relaxed to having your heart racing a lot.

Yes as I have known it is hereditary. So I believe that I should take care more. Because it runs through the blood of my family. I really love sweets but I also love my life and I prefer to be healthy for myself and my family. Thank you for sharing about your aunt. I guess I would just limit it. Again, thank you.

I think its more than just eating sweets. I'm a real candy lover, but I had to stop eating corn in my 20's. My mother became diabetic at 42, but controled it by just taking sweets & desserts out of her diet. I have had more problems with low blood sugar than high! There have been a few studies that say carbs, especially carbs from corn, seems to bring on type 2 diabeties. Needless to say, the farmers have tried to squash any knowlege about this info. I do know that certain populations have a much higher incidence of diabeties than others. Since the introduction of corn into other populations has DRAMATICALLY increased the numbers of type 2. So, if you are concerned about developing type 2 diabeties, you might do your best to cut corn out of your diet, but trust me, it will be nearly impossible to cut it out completely. Even lots of medications use corn starch or "modified food starch" as binders.

Really corn do taht. Actually that was one of my favorite. Now that I know about it then I guess I should gradually minimize it until if possible not eat it anymore. Thank you for sharing this. It would really help alot. I would also research more about it.

Dear lucky_witch, I am a dibetic patient from the age of 35. Actually I do not eat much sweets from the young age. Abruptly when I started feeling very tired and could not go to office. When I checked up with doctor, after test it was found I was having heavy sugar in my blood. I was really shocked. At that that Doctor told me that you got sugar due to family genes. My father used to eat lot of sugar food in abnormal quantity but he had no sugar. My grandfather had sugar from whom I acquired this this disease.

Eating a lot of sweet foods can possibly be the cause of having diabetes, as this disease can be acquired if you do not observe proper balance diet. However, what really makes the person to have diabetes if he or she has a family history of having diabetes in one of his or her family members. Have a nice day and God speed!

There is a direct relationship between sweet food and diabetes, not only you have trouble with diabetes but with other organs as well. Diabetes cause so many problem to the patient afterwards. It will destroy your life completely. ALl members of my mom's family if they die, they will die of diabetes and heart problem as well as kidney problem. All caused by diabetes. So eaty right and excercise, you will be happy if you do.

I think eating too much of sweats is not good for the body as it creates over weight and diabetes. If we eat lot of sweets in our younger ages,we have to suffer more, after we reach the age of 40 or above. So prevention is better than cure.Diabetes is some times acquired through family genes.

It is a genetic disease and it usually runs in families..It is not because you eat sweets....A person with diabetes does crave sweets and they should not eat them but sweets do not cause diabetes....The only ones that i know of that has contacted diabetes any other way except through family genes is the vietnam war vets, some of them have gotten the disease because of agent orange, other than that it is all family related...

My husband has diabetes. I believe you may get diabetes if you are predisposed to getting it, meaning it is in your family genes. A lot of factors can contribute to getting that. Unhealthy lifestyle would be one, like sedentary lifestyle, eating too much sweets and fatty foods, smoking, not eating at the right time, like for example you missed your lunch and then have to eat at around 6pm and bingeing on food because you are so hungry because you missed eating at the right meal time, and so and so forth. If you keep doing that throughout and you have family history, that may contribute to getting diabetes.

I don't think eating sweets causes diabetes, but if it runs in the family then you are already predispose so don't eat too much as it aggravates the situation.

Hi lucky_witch! Too much of anthing is harmful to the body including sweets. If you eat in moderation I do not think there should be any problem. If someone in your family has diabetics it is advisable that you be careful too.

It recently heard on a TV program that diabetes is not acquired through family genes. Eating sweet food or candy does not make you a diabetes candidate eighter, I'm a chocaholic and I don't suffer from diabetes. And I also know people who have become diabetic after the age of 60. So this is as much as I know about this however, there are lots of articles and books on the subject which I believe you will find the real information on this.

It's a pancreas problem which leads to diabetis. However I should add that eating sweets will definetly create obesity.

Its just a foolish myth. Actually ya eating sweets does affect you. When you eat sweets the level of glucose increases over the normal level in the blood stream. Then the diegestive system excretes extra enzyms to clear up the extraw level of glucose, and thus ends up clearing even the normal level to a certain extent, making you feel tired after a short while. More over the carbos and the amount of fats that the sweets contain are actually very harmfull and play a very important role in making you obese, thus pushing you towards type 2 diabetes and many other deseases that come due to obesety, like cholestrol problems, High or Low blood pressure etc. Take Care Be Healthy

Not true. Like someone already responded, if you eat too many sweets and you become overweight as a result of that then you are at risk for getting diabetes. Sugar is not the cause but being overweight and/or having a genetic disposition is.

Hi there lucky_witch, Well, I know that diabetes is hereditary. Go to www.WebMD.com so that you can read a few articles on diabetes. They are quite interesting. You cannot get diabetes from eating sweets. You would need to limit your sweets if you have diabetes. Enjoy the articles. Take care...

yes..its one of the fact that if we eat sweet food,we may have a chance to get diabetes.BUT!! its not that we can't have sweet food,we must have limit in eating sweets food.Dont have it too much. That's it..control our daily diet.Family genes have relations in it,it can be easily past through. What you have to do,is just to control what food you eat..may eat sweets but not too much that mayexceeds and be a diabetes.Drink a lot of plain water.8 glasses a day may be fine! =)

I don't think so. Sweet things can be a reason to create the diabetes. If so, diabetes can be healed. In fact the reasons of diabetes are unknown yet. It depends on whether you are overweight, active, diet etc. Even if you are very fat and don't do sports, it doesn't mean that you will have the diabetes.
