Do you all play the lottery? Is it worth it/is it wise?

Because I just turned 18.
Now, I don't want to get addicted or anything (obviously), but do you all play it? Would you recommend it?
Like, my interests are the scratch-off tickets and one certain (easy) game here in Texas called the Cash Five.
Or are you just reading a thread of a future potential addict?Let me know.:)

I do play the lottery but, I only play when I determine that the prize comensurates with the bet. Here in the Philippines we have a 6/42 lotto, which means 6 numbers from 1 to 42, so the chances of winning is 1 in the number of 6-number combination in 1 to 42 which is 5,245,786, one unit bet is 10 pesos, so i will only place my bet when the jackpot reach 52,000,000 or more. This way I get my 10 peso real value.

Once I put £150 ($304) on the lottery and I won NOTHING!
You have a better chance winning something through gambling!
I reccommend Betfair.com
You can even earn money on there by referring other people.

I do play the lottery but generally only play when the jackpot is really high. I do not want to get addicted and gamble all my money away. When I do play, I usually just buy two or three tickets at at time. The chances of winning are very slim. If we win, we will definitely feel it was worth it.

Having a gambler as a father and seeing him spend thousands of dollars on scratch-off tickets with little or not return, I would stay steer clear. Lotto tickets and scratch offs are fine to buy once in a while, but as an investment, they pretty much suck. By the time you win any money, you'll have spent way more than that trying to win. I only play the lotto when the pot is really, really big. I figure if I'm going to take a chance and lay some cash out, I'd rather have the chance of winning millions instead of just thousands. Instead, why not put that money in a high-yield savings account or something. It sounds boring, but that's guaranteed money. And really, if I had saved all the money I'd made from the time I was 18 (I'm 32 now), all the money I spent on frivolous things like lotto, cabs, eating out, etc., I'd have enough for a down payment on a house now.

I play the big games (not the scratch tickets) and it cost me $10.00 a week to play them. It is money that is not missed too much but gives me a chance to make more than I put in. I realize that the chances of hitting anything big is against me gut if you don't play you cannot win. I only play one number per game per day because it only takes one ticket to win. The scratch tickets are too addictive and you can loose a lot of money if you chase good money after the money that you have lost trying to win.

We play lottery for once or twice a month. My father had already won many times while playing lottery, but not that quite big cash.
It is also nice to play sometimes because there are times when you would not expect the fate and you will just notice that you win from the game.
However, never try to make this as a hobby of yours everyday. It is not worth it also if you play lottery regularly, as you will be the one to lose money.
Have a nice day and God speed!

My husband and I buy scratchers every so often. Are they worth it? Probably not, but they can be fun. We never buy them in excess and we've won a few dollars here and there. It can be fun and it'd be nice to win a lot of money, but I really don't expect that to happen. Would I recommend it? Probably not. You'll most likely end up losing money and if you don't have money to spare, it's not a wise choice to spend money on. If you have a few bucks to spare, though, it doesn't hurt to play every once in awhile.
