Do you believe the devoutly religious are intellectually soft or brave to put trust in something they've never seen? I know you've seen portrayals of people who cannot debate their religion for anything, and always repeat themselves ("It's this way cuz God says so"), but have you seen people who can give logical explanations to a point, then convince you that faith is more noble than skepticism?

Intellectually soft. Some people believe that they need religion to shroud their real problems, problems that they never came face to face with. Watch the first two episodes of Full Metal Alchemist (FMA), I think that show says it all. The intellectually soft or weak will turn to religion to hide from their problems, they feel that they need hope, so religion is their salvation.

I love this answer. I believe every religion has all kinds of people, intelligent and otherwise, but you gave a great explanation concerning the true intellectually soft.

I always thought that non-believers or those who step on other people's beliefs are just out there to seek credit for what they know and believe (which is science), I just let them do what they want since they are just hungry for what they cannot obviously WIN. No matter what they do, they will always feel HIGHLY noble over those who don't follow or agree with them.
I'm sure the right answers will come at the right time, I am not that hsaty to wait since I believe it'll be told..

I believe in God devotely and no one seriously ever called me intellectually soft; most people say I'm one of smartest people they know. But one of my PCA is like that so I can relate. I'm very sorry that people of faith get protrayed like that, however.

Faith is the license religious people give to each other for believing in that which is unprovable and unbelievable. There is no nobility in it. Religion is the only field of human endeavour were people are applauded for believing something that has absolutely no basis in fact. Faith, by its very nature is counterintuitive and anti-intellectual. You only have to look to the loonies who believe, in spite of the overwhelming evidence to the contrary, that creation is the answer and evolution is a lie. If that is not intellectually soft that nothing is.

religions are based on unseen facts!these facts cannot be proven physically it has to be proved logically -- fr example if we see some thing moving we will be sure that there would be someone who is moving it even we have not seen him/her.
it is not importent that we have all the logical answers regardig to our religion, but we must be sure that there are some people whome we follow after prophits who have all the answers regarding the faith,to which he only he can give you answers who are representetives of prophits,if they are not in front of us then whome do we ask? so its logically proved --- and i found the one whome should i ask.
