Have you been in a hospital before?

If so, for how long? What did you do to kill the time that you were there? My problem was that I did not have my computer for the first week. The second week I did and that did help. Then when I went back in unexpectedly I did not have it again. That was when I got bored and when I get bored I tend to get depressed. So what do you do to kill time in a hospital room when you have no visitors?

I was just in the hospital a couple of months ago for a hysterectomy. I killed time by doing alot of walking around and watching my tv. I would have loved to have a computer!

I bet you wanted a computer. I was allowed to have mine after I had been in the hospital for two weeks, but those were two long weeks.

Yes, I've been in the hospital before, but it was only a short stay of 3 days/2 nights when I had to have surgery. To stay busy and kill time while I was there, I read and watched TV. I also slept a lot. No better way to kill time than sleeping, lol! I would have loved to have had my computer with me, but I only have a desktop, so I doubt that that would have worked. If I ever have to go into the hospital again (hopefully not), I'll probably do the same thing, unless I have a laptop at that time.

I like your ideas for the most part and for the first week they work really well. Then you start to get really bored with everything.

I've been in for a few weeks after surgery, and for a few days after giving birth. For the surgery hospital visit, I watched a lot of television and read magazines. For the birth hospital stay, I was a little bit busy with the baby since he roomed in, and napped whenever I could get a chance!

A few times. The longest was when I had a tumor removed from my ovaries and I spent most of the time working on cross stitch and sleeping. I was there 3 days and it was 3 days too long. Thankfully all the other times were only for various hours.

I have been in the hospital a few times but the worst was when I got hot liquid asphalt in my eye. I was a flat roofer and we used hot tar all the time, well one day I slammed the mop into the tar bucket and the tar splashed up in my face getting me in the chin and left eye. Hot tar is about 5 times hotter then boiling water and cools fast so my eye was stuck shut. I went to the hospital and they picked and pulled the hot tar off my far and skin came with it then I had to rinse my eye out for about an hour which almost made me sick. 4 hours later I was allowed to go but couldn't see out of either eye for 2 weeks. Also 4 months ago I was sanding a rim off a car and I guess I got a little piece of metal in my eye. Well I did not know this until I went to bed that night and felt a god awful pain of scratching on my eye ball. I was up all night in extreme pain every time I shut my eyes. I was so tired by the morning it was impossible to even keep my eyes open and finally went to the hospital. I though it was just scratched but it turned out it had a chuck of metal right in the middle of my eye.

Ouch. That sounds very painful. I have had lye in my eye and that is bad enough. I used to make my own soap but I stopped when my son was born. To have damaged your eyes more than once has to be pretty bad. Metal in the eye is definitely not good.

I have been in the hospital numerous times, but I guess you want when I was not working in one. I went the first time to get my eye straightened out when I was a teenager, I went in a hospital to have a baby. When I got married and started to have cramps (20 years later) they tried opening my fallopian tubes and that did not work. I broke my wrists and was in the hospital to get the bones fixed. Later on I started to get cysts so I had to get a d & c but that ruined my changes further and took away that emotional warm feeling when I looked at babies. I love them but the instinct is gone. A year or so ago, I started to bleed, and went in for another d & C, but this time, they were able to remove the cysts from below and did not cut open my stomach. I do not mind about visitors, but I wished when I had my daughter that someone would have been there, then I would not have given her up for adoption.

My two stays were too long ago, long before personal computers. First a tonsilectomy at four and another about some kind of digestive disorder at nine. The latter one I remember getting a shot that I suspect now was something to help me sleep, since I remember acting a little drunk. That last one was for only one night - I don't remember how long the first time.

Only time I've been in the hospital over night was when I had my kids and a new baby occupied my time. If I was there for something else I would get someone to bring my crochetting to me and books.

No, the last time that I have been in a hospital was when I got some kidney and brain problem. But since then , I never been to hospital again. I get some little fear of doctors and injections and also the bills to pay. I guess we should take care of our body and our health to avoid being hospitalized.

It was about 6 month before I got my bachelor degree,I said to my roommates I had never been to our college hospitial in past 3 and half years. A week later,I went to that hospital and have stayed there at least 2 month. I missed a lot of things and it was very boring in hospital. No computers,no Internet.Very boring. Everyday I has at least one friend visiting me,but it was still boring. People can't talk to you all day. They have their own business. Very bad experience. I hope I would go there as less as possible.

Yes, I've been confined in the hospital twice before because I underwent ceasarian section when i gave birth to my children. I only stayed 4 days on each confinement. I was just resting there, feeding my babies, and chatting with my families and friends who dropped by.

I have been in the hospital a few times in my life time. I come armed with books which I love to read. Also I bring a few magazines. Then to me the most important thing of all is my CD player. I bring my music with me and most of the time I am listening to my music. I don't get bored. If nothing else I engage a nurse in a conversation. But my music takes care of the boredom pretty well.

I was hospitalized once..it was a stage III dengue hemorrhagic fever. I was in the hospital bed for two weeks, with my families not hoping for my recovery. I was unconscious for maybe three days, and when I redeem consciousness, I was too weak to think about boredom =)
My mother's there for the duration of my hospitalization, and some classmates frequently paid me a visit and told stories to make me laugh...as soon as I could stand from the hospital bed, the doctor allowed me to go home, so basically I didn't experience boredom.

Unfortunately I've been in hospital far too often! I've had 3 children by C-section and 10 operations, so stay's have been as short as over-night or as long as 6 months. I had a road accident and for the first few weeks was 'paralysed' from the waist down. That was the worst time for me as I was in a room on my own and like you I get depressed when bored. Usually I've been on a ward with other patients to talk to which helps pass some of the time. Mealtimes were also a diversion! The last time I was in I was on a monitor so couldn't get out of bed and walk around so it was mainly TV and puzzle books that kept the boredom away. I had access to the internet, via the pay for TV system they have in our local hospital, but it was so slow you couldn't really do much. Perhaps next time I go in I'll borrow my hubby's lap top! Actually next time will be an overnight stay only, so I'll just take a book!
I've taken in knitting, sewing and embroidery in the past too. Just anything that will keep me busy without needing a lot of concentration!

I was in and out of the hospital for a while after a goofed up appendectomy. I read alot of books and did alot of school work a the time (i think i missed a good month of school) I did cross word puzzles, wandered the hallway, listened to music and watched tv. It was pretty boring when i was feeling better but alot of the time i was just too sick to really care.
