I am not a professional web designer but I did design my own webpage which I needed to do myself as it is a tribute site to a special friend so I wanted to do a page from the heart, I am an absolute dummy when it comes to technical things so someone suggested I do my page in Word which relys heavily on tables, I love working with tables and I have tried to work out other programs but I just don't understand them...tables in word are easy...

I think it is wonderful that you made that site as a tribute to your friend! I checked it out and it warmed my heart. I guess I should have said "professional" web designer in my question. I personally think CSS makes life easier and it is awesome... anyway.. nice thing you did for your friend. :-)

i always design my websites using tables, I'm not a professional web designer and i don't know whole lot of technical things about web designing, the only thing I'm really bothered is whether I'm able to communicate my ideas through my websites. I've been hearing about this CSS for quite a while now, though I'm yet to figure out for what it is used for and what are its benefits over using tables. It will be great if you could throw some light what CCS is and what are its advantages, if possible also show me few sites which uses CSS.
Thanks in advance!

From what I understand, CSS stands for Cascading Style Sheets. It's a simple way of actually making pre-determined codes without having to do it manually with HTML. I've built a few sites while I have some tables, I also use stylesheets mainly in the form of external and just link it. If you look at my business site, located at http://www.bostwickdesigns.com. It also has a few examples of some sites I either worked on, modified, or built from scratch. It has some use of CSS though.
The only thing without tables that I've gathered is layers actually more so since it seems to work best and has some compatibility. I made a template without tables on my own site.

Actually I still use both though I am learning to go tableless more and more. I used tables because of formatting reasons and as for going tableless, I tried that just without tables one time and it didn't work out right. I don't know if this would be the right way to do but with Dreamweaver, I try the conversion of tables to layers and it seemed to work better for me.
I got a template online actually on my business site as I am still studying up to become a great web designer. This is going to continue I believe as I am trying to make this into a career.

I use frontpage since ages and mainly on tables. I can work preety quick and comfortable on that. I know CSS can be linked to have a table-less structure and consistency on all pages, it's the coding part which can be burdensome.
