How big is your bedroom?
On tv we see American bedrooms as being huge with a built in wardrobe or walk in, arm chairs, a desk, a dressing table, in fact lots of room to move about. Are your bedrooms really like that?
In Australia the bedrooms seem to be rather cramped. I have a queen bed with bedside tables against one wall and only about 8 inches either sideof them. Between the end of the bed and the built in is about 31/2 feet. Other furniture is a cane princess chairI use to dump stuff on.,

a lot of what you see I think is just the film industry portrayal... it tends to make americans think they all have to have that too! well, I have never had a walk in closet - as a matter of fact my current bedroom does not even have a built in closet... though it is rather large but that is only because it was a garage that was converted into a family room but used now as a bedroom!

I've realised that American homes are much the same as Australian homes. I just think that bedrooms need to be roomy enough for a person, no matter what age to have their own space to make it theirs...even if it's 2 kids sharing. It must be hard for people with 3 - 4 children in a 3 bedroom home with tiny spare rooms.

our three children are so spaced in age that we wanted them each to have their own room - so that is why we are in the former family room (still have a living room to use) though the bedrooms are small - 10x12 10x13 and 9x11 I do not know what the measurement of what we use is off hand... I am thinking it is like 24 x 18

My partner and I have a huge bedroom. It measures 27 by 18. We have a kingsize sleigh bed, 2 large night tables, a chest of drawers, a long dresser with 10 drawers and 2 huge closets, along with a bathroom attached. We have room to put a few chairs and another table in there. We love it. The other bedrooms are 10 by 12 (computer room) and 12 by 15 (guest room.)
PEACE

How big is my room? Well nothing like what is on television or what is in magazines that is for sure. It also deprends on what type of house or mobile home you live in. I have a okay sized bedroom it is a 11x11 and my closet runs along one side of the room but it also houses the hot water tank so it is about 2ft.x8ft if closet space. I have a queen size exstended length bed in my room also and since I like my bed against the wall that gives us a little more space. We also have 2 big dressers in our room and we have about 5 foot a few inches in front of the bed and 2 foot at the foot of the bed and that isn't includeing the space the dressers take since we have the dressers against a wall at the foot of the bed yeah we have enough space on th side to put a chair if we wanted to which I have tried but hubby says no that it would just be to much and something to stub his toe on in the dark.Or something for me to pile full of and leave it there.oh we also have a end table and a huge stand alone jewelry case that I inherited from my grandmother. But the room we used to to have was a 8x10 and we had little room to mom about and just a walk space really in front of the bed about 17 inches.that is all. Oh yeah I live in a 14x65 trailer.

We live on a 50x100 land lot that my husband inherited from his mom although most the land is hillside. It is a old trailer his parents bought it in 1981. We have had to do major repairs after we moved in including a new roof because when it rained out it looked like it was raining in we had tons of pots and pans allover the floor.. It is not a movable trailer. An annexe? Is that a like a pull out room? then no it does not have one.

It sounds huge...you have so much stuff in there. LOL. Does your trailer have an annexe? Is it in a trailer park or on a block of land? We call them caravans over here and if they are not mobile they are situated permanently in caravan parks. Folk who use them to go on holidays keep them in their yard.

My current bedroom is 10x11 and it feels so cramped. We are preparing to sell our home this spring.(If we can, if not we are gonna convert the garage into a 4th bedroom) We have a Queen size bed and a long dresser with a mirror, a L shaped computer desk, and an entertainment stand. Seriously, there is a pathway that you can walk around the bed as long as the computer chair is pushed in.
Lucky the house we are going to buy if we can sell this one, we lived in before, as it was my mother-inlaw's rental. The Master bedroom in that house, is 15x21 and I miss it, if we convert the garage, we will get a 9x18 room, which works but I hope our house sells.

We are planning on it. We are having a new roof put on, and the roofer will honor the warranty for the new owners. We are going to get a storage unit to put almost everything in, we are going to shed down to just what we need to live and everything personal and the clutter will go into the Storage unit. My husband is sad, because his computer will be getting put up in this, but we all have to make sacarafices.
We are excited, because even though the market is not to strong in our area, we got our home at a discounted price and have put alot of work into it, and have bought it up to the value of the other houses in the neighborhood. We are looking at least a $30,000 USD profit. And our new home that we are going to buy off my mother-inlaw she is selling to use, at the same price we originally bought this home for. That is if we can sell it.
We don't think it will be a problem though, because we are near two schools, and one of them is highly desirable in our area. Houses that come on the market on our road, sell normally with-in 60 days, most selling with-in 30.
We also have a decent plot of land, which has a feature hard to find in town, all my neighbors back into a 20 acre field, which houses all kinds of wild life. Its a nice place to hang out in the warmer months, and its really neat for the kids to see all the wildlife, that we have that you normally don't get in town.
Lucky where we are hoping to move to in on the other side of town, on the outskirts, and there is plenty of wildlife around there too, though not as much because there isn't a 20 acre field behind the new house, but just 4 blocks away you get to a 200 acre field.
Our current house is 1194 SQ Ft, the one we hope to move into this summer is 2800 SQ Ft. I watch alot of HGTV and think I have learned how to stage a home. Hopefully, I am right. lol

Oh golly that all sounds wonderful and I think you will do very well. Guve hubby lots of hugs to make up for not havbing his puter and I've said a little prayer that it will sell quickly so he is not in pain for too long.
I'm very excited for and look forward to hearing all about the move really soon. At least all your stuff will be packed up and in the storage unit. :)

Hi Avonrep1. If you want to sell, may I suggest you reduce the amount of furniture as much as you can so things are minimal and don't look to cramped or crowded. If things are cramped and crowded the impression you give is not good. Even if you havbe to store stuff elsewhere. I hope it sells soon for you....good luck.

My bedroom is 10 by 10 with a joke for a closet.
This house has no "master suite" in fact, it only had 1 bathroom until we did the addition in 1999. That added about a 3rd again the space of the original house, but really only gave us a 2nd bath, a 6 by 8 foot room we use for the cat stuff & additional space in the kitchen. The largest bedroom is 10 by 13. The smallest is 8 by 10.
I have a twin bed I sleep in, the roomie, who has the largest room has a super single water bed & the roomie in the smallest room has a futon I don't think she's ever had up in the couch so it takes up most of the room.
We have a converted single car garage that could be a bedroom, but we use the laundry room off that room as our 1 single closet for all our clothes.
One roomie & I can share shirts & we do, we have a pretty good idea who's is really who's. The other roomie is a size 4 so there's no question we can't wear her clothes! LOL
My house was built in the late 1970's & would've been considered, even then, as a "starter home." Of course, I've been here since 1984....
I'm happy, if I NEVER move again it'll be too soon!

You & I are pretty much of an age & the fibro makes it hard to do things other people my age can do. The older roomie has a year on me & a bad hip but is the size 4. The other is 7 years younger with diabeties, high blood pressure, cholestoral, and visual impaired! She's also about 9 inchs taller than I am which is why we can wear shirts but not pant! LOL.

Wow--what shows have you been watching?? I think that is the ideal bedroom we'd all like to have...my bedroom really isn't even a bedroom in my apartment...it's an "alcove" meaning there's no door to the room but just an archway...years and years ago, when my mom, grandmother and I moved here into the place we had sliding doors to give a sense of a private and separate room...no closets or anything...my mom and I shared the small alcove with twin beds with a small table in between to separate our twins beds...I would say the entire space of the "bedroom" is about 8' x 10' uh...rather small..Some time ago I ripped down and dismantled the sliding doors...they were falling apart anyway...and just used to have a curtain on one part of the area to at least give a sense of privacy...and since my mom hadn't slept in her bed for years..got rid of the bed, as she decided to sleep on the sofa (beats me why)..Now with my mom gone...it does seem roomier and more airy ...but the idea that we all have these immense bedrooms is silly...so many of the studio apartments here in NY have those "concealed" beds...the ones that you can push up into a wall, and is hidden behind a false wall type thing.
I have a photo here of me taken last year at the entrance of my bedroom---that's me sitting on the table that sort of acts as a room divider...LOL ...this was before I painted up the place by the way--the bed is on the other side so you don't see it

I beleive the one I have now is 1x12 one wall has a vanity thats drawerss with mirror.
Queen bed sets in the middle with 2 endtables other side a have what the used to call a space saver it has a drawer and severel selves. next to that my chest of drawers has a tv on it. the closet is at the foot of my bed. just have room to walk around 3 sides of the bed thats it. The old house my bedroom was 15 z 22 and I had plenty of room more than needed. So some houses have small rooms and others have big rooms

It sounds just right...maybe a tad small but it still sounds very functional. As long as I can fit in my queen sized water bed and some lamp tables I'm happy. There's no where to put a tv in my room but I was thinking of a smal one on a wall bracket...remote control of course.

No - not the most of us anyway LOL.
Our bedroom is a decently sized bedroom. Not too big but not too small. It's 11 1/2 feet by nearly 15 feet. And it's got a small 4 ft closet that breaks up the space some. We've got a full sized bed, 2 night stands, a dresser, and a chest in there with sufficient room to move around.
Are you seeing those rooms on sitcoms? Or something else?

I have to admit my master bedroom is rather big. It is divided into four sections.
1. The walk-in closet.
2. The bathroom has a toilet, floor to ceiling storage cabinet with drawers, a big garden tub that two people can fit into, a separate shower stall, and a place for two clothes hampers.
3. The vanity area that has two sides; his side and hers side. Each side has a sink, mirror, medicine cabinet and storage areas under the sinks.
4. The main bedroom is big. My king-size waterbed fits in the middle. I have three bookcases, a full-size dresser with two mirrors, a portable glass-top vanity and chair, a small desk and I have room to put one more piece of furniture for a tv if I want.
I suppose if I re-arranged it a bit I could get a comfy chair in for reading.
The other bedrooms in the house are not as elaborate. The average bedroom is about 12' x 14'for two of them and the last bedroom is the little one I use for an office. It is 10' x 12'. They share a bathroom.
We also have a living room, family room, dining room, big kitchen and utility room with a half-bath.
A half-bath is a bathroom that only has a toilet and a sink, no tub.
The house is about 2,033 square feet total. Then there is the wooden deck and concrete patio outside. All of this is on 10 acres of land. So we have lots of living area. Yet, sometimes it seems cramped. I want to put a basement underneath the house and that would add another 2,033 square feet.

My bedroom isn't huge. I have a full sized bed, 2 end tables, a computer stand, desk, dresser and a TV on top of it. That takes up pretty much all the room. And we are planning on getting a queen sized bed so I might have to rethink what furniture I have in there right now.

My son's room is about 15x12 or so. It has 2 twin beds (headboards included) a large dresser, a floor lamp, a tox box and room to walk around the beds, so it is a nice size. This has been the largest apartment we have ever had at about 1024 square feet total.

i, like you, have a small room compared to the American ones you see. Its probably about the size of your by the sounds of it. Maybe mine is a bit wider, as i have about 2 feet at the most either side of the side tables.
Best wishes to you, and take care

Hi MsTickle! :) Not all bedrooms in the US are large. Now a days the newer houses are being built even smaller in which we don't like. The house we have now is huge and yes our bedroom is rather large and it's great! We have a king bed, two night stands, a tall dresser, a dresser with a mirror, and two chairs and we still have plenty of room to spare. It's really nice and one of the reasons we bought the place because every room is nice in size.

I think the bedroom in my new condo is about the same size as my old bedroom in my parents' house. My new bedroom seems bigger, though. Maybe it's because some of the items that previously took up space in my old bedroom are now in my condo's living room or the closets. The main part of my bedroom has my bed, a bookcase, a computer desk, a wall-mounted TV stand and a chest of drawers.

Some American houses have huge master bedrooms. I always marvel at the big furniture they have. I live in Canada and I think we do things on a smaller scale. However, master bedrooms are also popular. I bought a condo. It has two bedrooms and a den and two bathrooms. One bedroom is a guest room,it has a queen size bed, an armoire,a built in wardrobe two bedside tables and a chair. It is rather cramped. The den is lined with bookshelves and my electronic equipment. The master bedroom contains two more bookshelves, a wardrobe, a chair, TV, VCR and a tiny fridg in case you wake up in the night and want some cold water. Off this bedroom is the second bathroom containing shower, sink and toilet. Some people like bigger master bedrooms. I have also seen many many houses and apartments with small bedrooms. I guess it depends on what you like and can afford.
There also seem to be cultural differences. I was in Germany recently and visited some people in a brand new large house. The master bedroom was of average size, a double bed, end tables and a walk in closet but no ensuite bathroom. There was one huge bathroom in the house with separate glassed in shower and big tub. Other than that there was only one tiny guest toilet off the main entrance. The main entrance was also very large and the stairs to the second floor were very wide. Usually here in Canada the entrance hall is quite small (in an average house) and the stairs are kind of narrow. I guess things are different in different countries.

We have three bedrooms here in our house, with one as what we would like to call as the master's bedroom. My parents were the one's who stays on that room, it's not that big also.
I'm not from the US though, I think our bedrooms are also fairly enough to sleep at.

My bedroom is the biggest room in the house, previous owners changed the house around, it used to be the lounge, but they moved the lounge romm so it could be next to the dinning room.Making a really big main bedroom and we liked it that way when we bought the house,
I always had big bedrooms because I had a lot of furniture, like a really big dressing table and extra chest of draws.
