Have you ever tried hypnosis for pain control?

I live in pretty constant pain. Either my back, hips, legs, neck or head or some combination thereof is always in pain at some time. I have taken a lot of different kinds of pain killers right up through hydromorphone pills. I hate narcotics because I hate that "out of control" feeling when you get woozy from them. I have seen a chiropractor and pain specialists. I've had all sorts of tests. It's all caused by deterioration of my cartilege in my spine, and a combination of progressive arthosis and arthritis in various parts of my body. I am just wondering if anyone can tell me anything about pain control via hypnosis. I know hypnosis is helpful for many different kinds of problems so I am curious to know if anyone has ever used it for pain.

Hi and sorry about all your pain. I also deal with a lot. I have not tried hypnosis for pain. I have tried it for quitting smoking and it did not help much. I also don't like the fuzzy feeling I get from narcotics so I keep the dose to a level that I don't feel that way and have other pain medications for break through pain. What has helped me most in just the past couple of months is reading the book, The Secret. It strongly encourages one to think positive and how to help change your way of thinking about what your dealing with. I cannot express how much this has helped. I have a minimum of 5 herniated discs in my neck and back along with many other issues. There are also plates and screws in neck that are not even sitting right. I tell you this so your know I am not just talking about mild pain. Please look into this and give it a try. It has really changed my life and my whole outlook on it. God bless and hope whatever you do you will be pain free as much as possible.

Could you please let me know more information about this book, like the author, so I can look it up? Thanks. I am sure you are in way more pain than I am, or at least on a different level. It's useless to compare one to another because everyone has different levels of pain tolerance. Like... Men think they know pain, but they could never stand childbirth. LOL.

I am sorry it has taken so long to respond. I had written a response a couple of times and when I went to preview it, all I had written had disappeared. The book that has helped me a lot is the Secret by Rhonda Byrne. Then I read The Law of Attraction and now onto a third. I bought the movie, the Secret at Amazon for only $8.00 which was great considering others were charging $30. I think the concept these books brought is exactly what I needed. I am not saying you will never have pain but I have had a huge improvement. I hope you get the chance to read it and then would love to hear your thoughts on it and if it helps you as much. And please don't ever feel others pain is worse. No one can experience what you deal with. I know how hard it can be and you don't want to constantly burden family and loved ones. And it is not possible for others to understand as much as those going through it.. I wish you the best and I am here if you need someone to vent to. Take care and God Bless.

Years ago I found a dentist who practiced hypnosis and the experience was unbelievable. He pulled two teeth while I was under and I never felt a thing. I would give it a try for you pain I'm willing to bet it will do you wonders.

Thanks. I take it since you put that in the past tense that you're not going there anymore. Why not? That would be so cool. I will have to ask my doctor if he knows of a hypnotist. My doctor is also a naturalist and an osteopath so he keeps up on both regular medical and natural and homeopathic possibilities for his patients.
