Hi all, just wondering how many people out there reseach about the breed of dog they are thinking of buying. I think it is very important to research the breed of dog to determin whether the breed is compatible to your personality and whether it will suite your way of life. Before buying it is a good idea to also research breeders as well. This will help find the best breeder who is going to give you the best after sales backup.
Let me know, who researches?

Well I only buy shar pei and i already know all about them. But as your saying it is always a good idea to learn as much about a breed before you buy. For example a person who does not have a yard may not want to buy a dog such as a boxer, they have high energy and need to run. and your so right about researching the breeders as well. Your new puppies attitude is gonna reflect how much socialization the puppies have received. My boyfriend Told me about a week ago that he wants to buy me a shar pei puppy because he knows how bad I really want one. I am not only having a problem with researching breeders but cannot seem to find a breeder in my area. :sighs:

I live in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. My boyfriend isn't looking for the breeder, I'm doing all the work on that end. He really doesn;t know the breed and wouldn;t have no clue the questions that need to be asked about the puppies as well as about the parents of the puppies. So I get to do the picking out and all, he's just the one paying, lol

Since I recently lost my little puppy...I've been researching other small dogs to see which would be the best for me. There are so many sites and so many different breeds that it gets overwhelming. I want to learn about the type of dog I'm going to eventually get.

Yes their are many sites as to research puppies on. But I would stick with The american kennel club website. You will be able to find all the small breeds there (thats if your looking for a purebred pup) They also List decriptions as to the disposition, standards and such on there. But when you think of small breed what one breed sticks out at you the most?

You must have some idea as to what small breed of dog takes your fancy. What breed of small dog have you always wanted. so reseach these first. But it's a good idea to learn about the nature and tenperament of the breed you are thinking of getting. To mant people buy for cuteness and when the dog grows up and is not so cute any more they want to get rid of it. remember buying a dog is like getting married, you have the responsability of this dog for it's entire life.

I did tons of research on that before I decided on my cavalier. First choosing the breed, then choosing the right show breeder who do all the health-testing required and socializes the puppies properly. It took me well over a year before I felt comfortable enough getting a puppy. And even now I'm already researching for my next dog, which I will probably not get for another two years. I think it's extremely important to find the dog with the right temperament that suits you. A dog is after all someone you will share your life with every day for the next 10-15 years so it's well worth the research to get things right from the start.
