need some help on this one. here is my assignment for this week. please leave me some of your comments. it will be greatly appreciated. here is the topic
Religion is a powerful social institution. Interestingly, religion is often used both to justify war and as a basis for waging war. For example, the Crusades were wars undertaken by christians in the eleventh, tweltfth, and thirteenth centuries to try to take back the Holy Land and other fromerly christians territories held by the Muslims for hundreds of years. In recent years, religion has been used as the rationale for numerous acts of terror, including the destruction of the World Trade Center in New York.
Fundamentalism has often been a response to the spread of "liberalism" which is seen to threaten non-material cultural beliefs. Religious fundamaentalists adhere to a rigid orthodoxy that is non-pluralistic and relies on what are considered literal translations of holy texts.
The effects of religious fundamentalism on politics can be found.
This week choose an example of religious fundamentalsim from a first world or third world country. Choose a specific religion. Choose an issue that particular religion has focused on and discuss it effects on the local or nationl politics. Consider whether the fundamentalism has fostered change or prevented change.

The muslims use their religion as a way to justify the killings of nonmuslims. Ive seen some of the koran and it is true!

I am a Christian and I somewhat agree with you on this. But! not all muslims believe this way. I have a friend that is muslim. When she first met me, she said I was the devil because I was white. It took forever for me to convince her that I was not an evil person. After she finally started to trust me, we decided that if we was going to be friends, I was not to push my religion on her and vice virsa. We are great friends now. She is a wonderful person. You cant judge muslims for what the evil people did to us (9/11) I dont think it was there religion. I think they are just evil.

I think religious fundamentalism has taken roots in middle east and asian countries because of poverty and illeteracy coupled with unemployment. The youth surrounded by the above circumstances is an easy prey to religious fundamentalists since it offers him some job and also feeling of recognition.
Only econimic development can solve this problem of fundamentalists turning to terrorists. Politicians add fuel by taking sides with the fundamentalist and use them to further their own cause. The misguided youth sacrifices his life without realising this.

You probably already turned this in and I have been trying to come up with something for you for a week but other than many of the biblical battles that are still being played out today. I can't come up with anything. Many wars may suggest religion or freedom, but all seem to revert back to power or some sort of monetary or material value.
Great help I am lol
