What's the strangest food your cat likes to eat?

Cats are supposed to be finicky eaters, but every cat I've owned has had weird food preferences. My old Manx cat would eat just about anything, but she loved Italian food the best---particularly lasagna and spaghetti with sauce. My dad would also give her Doritos, which she loved, but they would always make her sick. I would ask him not to and he would say 'Oh but she likes them!' Oh dear.
My family's first cat loved green bean casserole (the kind with crispy onions on top) and these almond-flavored cookies from the local Chinese restaurant. One of my mother's cats really likes fried tofu (perhaps he's secretly a vegetarian).
What's the oddest food your supposedly-picky cat loves to eat?

I've heard of cats eating melon before. I wonder if cats are like people in that some have a 'sweet tooth' and others would rather eat spicy or salty food.

Oh yeah, my old cat liked mashed potatoes too...it was probably the butter and milk in them. Dill pickle chips? Do you mean like potato chips or the little sliced pickles you get in a jar? Either way, that's quite an odd preferance!

My cat is super picky and doesn't like a lot of stuff. The strangest thing I think that my cat eats is poptarts. and he especially loves the poptart fillings (plain strawberry is what I always get)and I don't know that's just weird to me.
I knew a cat who was obsessed with french fries...and my ex-boyfriends cat loved to share my chicken nuggets (which was funny because my ex didn't eat chicken, so she'd never have had chicken if it wasn't for me).
I love kitties!

Yep, as I read these responses, I'm starting to think cats like junk food more than most people. Chicken nuggets I can understand, but strawberry poptarts!?

I think mango yogurt is the weirdest thing I've ever seen my cat eat. Usually I give him a taste of my food to him to get him to leave me alone. Normally, if it's yogurt, he doesn't want it. But for some reason, he wouldn't leave me alone until I gave him more mango yogurt. Seldom have I ever even seen that flavor and personally, I think it's blah, boring, but my cat goes ape for it.
My previous cat loved baked beans as in Campbell's pork and beans. He wouldn't leave me alone until I gave him about half a can. But when he had gas, it propelled him across the floor, every time he farted, he would slide a few feet and bang into something. He was a gas-powered cat! Next time he bugged me and I put beans in his dish, he went, "Rrrrant!" and hid underneath my couch like I was trying to do something to him. He had learned his lesson.

Oh no, poor kitty! Too bad he didn't eat a Beano tablet right afterwards---that would have saved him some trouble.
My cat liked plain yogurt, but she didn't like any with fruit in it. I can't blame your cat, though, mangoes are delicious!

It's real funny to come across a discussion on this topic. You would really have to see it to believe it. I sometimes come into the kitchen from getting the kids ready for dinner and find the cat eating 'greens'...I'm talking spinach...asparagus...brocolli...all of the stuff you can't get the children to eat! This cat doesn't stop there though. She loves licorice nips and roasted garlic hummus. This cat is the perfect hippy...well almost.

Wow, at least your cat is healthy and getting plenty of iron. I don't think even my old vacuum cleaner cat would eat spinach!

Yeah, my mom's cat, who is super-picky about cat food, will eat any piece of cheese set in front of him. It must be because it's made of milk.

Mmm bright orange cheese powder.
After reading this discussion, I'm beginning to think cats are secretly junk food addicts!

One of my mom's cats likes to eat bits of omelet, so your cat isn't alone in liking eggs! Your other cat sounds kind of like my brother when he was a teenager---if there was food anywhere around, he'd find it and eat it!

My cat Boots can be very finicky. She does not like most treats, only crunchy ones, she will not eat canned wet cat food, but she will eat wet cat food from a pouch, oh and she doesn't like chicken flavored stuff. But she eats chicken. Also I have 9 mice, they get things like cheese grips and oatmeal. If Bootsie sees the mice getting a treat she will want whatever they have and will eat it too.

I used to have a cat, "Bulaq" (cotton) who loved eating ice cream. Everytime I ate ice cream, I would give him his own serving in his own cup and he'd really slurp it down to the last drop or I would hold his sugar cone for him until he's finished slurping everything. His favorite flavor was chocolate.
'Majzhai," my current royal cat who's oh-soooooo-picky about food, won't eat his food when it's been in his bowl for quite some time and exposed to the air! He won't eat anything besides 'legitimate' cat food (whiskas or friskies ONLY). He doesn't like fishbones, fish, tuna, sardines or any other fish and he won't eat leftovers!!! Also, I don't know what's with dried flowers or potpourri that he loves so much. He goes crazy over them and won't stop meowing until you give them for him to chew on!

So your cat won't eat leftovers or less-than-fresh cat food, but he will eat potpourri?! I think he's just trying to mess with your mind. LOL.
My old cat liked ice cream too, though her favorite was butter pecan.

My current cats (Josie and Spec) like licking ice cream bowls.
My old cat Moxie loved food. She had a habit of stealing lettuce off my plate, but only romaine. She also loved ice cream too. She would stick her paw in the bowl...
Another cat (Figaro) would eat butter. We always had to remember to put the butter in the fridge or we'd come home to licked butter....

I can't blame a cat for liking ice cream!
I'm surprised your cat would specifically eat lettuce though---even my old eat-anything cat didn't care for leafy greens.

well, my cat eats almost anything, but he's crazy about vegetables, watery fruits especially melon, he would never stop asking for a bite, and any crunchy snacks. we were surprised when we've discovered his food preferences, my mom had left tomatoes on our dining table after a minute she saw my cat on the table finishing his tomato. nowadays were very careful about leaving veggies and fruits on the table because most probably they won't be there when we're ready to cook.

Moomin can be a very picky eater on occasion but he has been know to raid the fridge for himself. He also loves chinese take away and curry too, particularly if we have chicken korma or, if he is really in the mood for something completely different, he will eat curry sause and rice, sweet and sour sauce and noodles

I don't blame him for liking korma! It's delicious. How is he able to get into the fridge by himself?

My cat eats the strangest things! One of her favourites is salt and vinegar flavour crisps. If I leave them lying round, he will quite happily munch the whole packet. He also has a thing about my Malteasers too! I used ot blame my husband for stealing them but I've recently found out it was Max! He will actually eat anything, it's quite odd and I used to get quite worried about what he was eating, but I haven't noticed him getting poorly, and he eats what he wants, whether I hide them or not!!!

See, a couple of people have said their cats like salty, vinegary things, so I think I should start making salt and vinegar flavored cat food and make a fortune!
I don't blame your cat for liking Malteasers... I thought chocolate wasn't good for cats, but maybe he doesn't know that. LOL.

My old cat loved to eat tuna fish, though I didn't give it to her very often, because it made her breath smell terrible!
