My boss is on vacation this week, but I'll be working as diligently as ever. I actually get more work done when he's gone because he's not constantly asking me questions or having me do last minute "emergency" projects. Every time he's out for a week, my goal is to have at least 2 things done each day for him to review when he returns.
Do you goof off more when your boss is not at the office?

I never get more work done when my boss is gone. Of course, I am my boss so it would be hard to get more work done when I'm gone.
On the serious side, when I was working for other people I often found that I worked better when the boss was not around. Bosses can get very annoying. I do better when I know what needs to be done then am left on my own to accomplish the task.

Yup, that's what's happening this week. He's not here to keep interrupting me so I can get tons of stuff done :)
So, what kinda work do you do that you're your own boss??? I'm my own boss part-time...

Whoa!! You sure do have your hands full then. It is really nice though, knowing that your efforts are directly related to your income - not dependant on someone else to decide how much they want to give you. And being able to stay home with the kids is great too!!!

My husband and I own a landscape maintenance company. I am listed as the owner on most everything so that he can focus on doing the physical work. I handle all customer service issues, billing, answering the phones, etc. It's really nice because I am able to stay home with our children this way.

I am like you, I get more done when she is gone and at a less hurried pace even. I have to be on guard for my bosses PMS episodes and moodswings so that keeps me on edge. Then there are the "let me tell you about my date" episodes when I am trying to keep my mind on work trying to figure out a problem. It's hard to tell the boss "I'm busy" when she wants to chat.

I'm pretty lucky, my old boss is my new boss's wife, so he knows how I am. I'm not big into the whole chit-chat stuff, I'm there to do my job... There's only the 2 of us in the office so we tend to just work. It's just that he'll be working on something and need some help so I usually put my work aside to get the rest of it done. He'll be back on Monday and he will show me tons of pictures - he does take GREAT pictures - but it will only last a short time then it's back to work.

Sometimes, since it can really be a help!;) I feel releived knowing that nobody's watching what I'll do, where I'l go or what work to prioritize.
I will still work though, since it would be unfair if I just keep on goofing off without getting any job done. It's just that, I'd really take these once in a lifetime opportunities to relax while working!;)

It just seems like it's a bit easier to relax a bit while the boss is away. I've gotten ALOT done this week while my boss was gone, but I also did slack off sometimes....
