pevicasi,
Which linux distro are you trying out ?
Try to get your hands on a copy of ubuntu, which installs effortlessly and have a very standard desktop, which is almost similar to the normal windows interface. You won't be feeling much alienated in Ubuntu :)

I use Micro$oft Windows on my PC,
and Linux/Ubuntu on my laptop.
Windows is very user friendly, it work fine, more or less...even if I have, usually, a lot of crash system.
It is quite unstable...but, If you wanna play Final Fantasy, STALKER and so on, you have to use Micro$oft.
Linux is free, is stable, you don't need any anti-virus, you can find any kind of application/software you want...for free.
By the way, is not so simple to use Linux.
In the End, if you have to choose between those systems, you have to consider what you really need it for.
If you use your PC to play, or to work with programs like Photoshop, Premiere and other software linux-not supproted, you must choose Windows...or, at least, intsall a dual boot system Win/Linux, so, you can choose what use every time you want.

All my machines are dual boots, means they have both Linux and windows loaded to them .
I found both have their pros and cons. For server and database applications, Linux generally is far ahead , and much more reliable. That's why all those websites runs apache and MySQL . Also for programming and also for interfacing linux is my preferance.
When it comes to videos, flash, gaming, image manipulating, sound editing etc etc, windows is the best. linux is almost no where near . Since my work hop in all these areas, I keep my machines dual bootable , and some of them even run virtual machines, ie linux in windows and vice versa .
In a nut shell both have their ups and downs. Depends what you really want to do with your comp when choosing the best OS .

out of all the advantages you said on where windows beats out linux, the only true one is gaming due to the fact that most developers only support windows.
Linux is equal to or greater than windows when it comes to video and sound editing.
If you are going to be doing hard core image editing use a mac, as the only advantage windows has to linux is that photoshop exists on windows, but for 95% of users the gimp is just as good if not better than photoshop if they are willing to bypass the fact that it is not photoshop.
I can't comment on flash as flash is completely proprietary and development in it is limited to whatever adobe decides to make IDE's for it in.
In case I didn't make it clear by those statements I fully support linux, and currently run Debian sid on my laptop and only resort to using windows when I game (solely for the fact that mupen64 is not as good as 1964 or project64 as all of the other games I play are either based on the Quake3 engine, or are opensource/multi-platform).

The main reason to come to Linux is that, it is a free distribution unlike windows which is priced high. There are a few distributions which are really good like Suse, Mandriva, PC Linux OS, Fedora etc.. If you are familiar with Windows, you can easily get accustomed with Linux also. Nowadays Linux has changed a lot and the GUI is very good and it even gives a feel that it is very similar to windows. I feel more comfortable using a free distribution of linux than using a pirated version of windows.

Well as a fact no OS is as user friendly as Windows is?
But if you are ready to learn then Linux is a better option. However it has drawbacks you cannot play PC games. Atleast i dont know how to get them working on Linux platform. If you are going to use for chatting or work with documents then linux is a better choice any day of the week.
