How many of you are tarot readers here?

I started reading tarots in the year 2000. I first saw a friend of mine who's an expert in Tarots, Tai Chi, Reiki, Pranic Healing and many other things. So ever since I saw him connect with the higher energy and interpret the cards so well, I thought to myself, well, even I meditate a lot so why not try my hands with the cards and see how good my intuition works. And from then onwards, I've been doing occasional readings for friends and relatives and acquaintances. I have always noticed the cards speak in different terms at different times. But some tarot readers make it too technical and give it a specific dimension and meaning which doesn't help.
I don't know how many of you would agree with me, but I have always felt you have to be free when it comes to interpreting the cards. You have to have an open mind. And the higher energy always speaks in different meanings. Each card could mean something else at different points of time, but depends how deep we can go into interpreting them in that situation.

Hi cobradene, This is interesting because I attempted reading the tarot a number of years ago, but gave up rather quickly. I had grown up with the idea that fortune telling was connected with the occult, and that it was something with which we shouldn't get involved. When I saw that things often unfolded much as I had predicted, the feeling that maybe it was somehow wrong increased. I now believe quite differently, but still wonder about the usefulness of such a practice. Believing as I do that we create our own experiences, and understanding a little about how the mind reacts to such predictions, I feel that it could often have a negative affect. I would very much like your opinion on this. Blessings.

Well, this shows you have psychic abilities. And you must develop it more so you can help people. Tarots or fortune telling, need not necessarily have a negative effect on others. It depends upon how you interpret the cards to them so their minds are not affected. So, you should handle it like more of a counselling session. That's what I do. If there is something very bad happening in their lives, I would just give them a slight hint and tell them ways to avoid it and think of something better which would give them more happiness. So, Tarots could be a source of healing the mind as well. Thank you.

I agree with your "free intuition", but I just can't help not snobbing it's traditional divinatory meanings. I think ingrained in most of us are these traditional archetypes which spontaneously suggest upon the card images, and, of course coupled by our own intuitive sense and the vibrations we get upon the reading..I've been reading the cards for 20years now and I guess it got better thru practice...I do not employ a "technique" as you say but I do prefer some spreads which are I find comfortable reading, sometimes I create my own spreads...

Actually, meditation is very important right? We need to meditate on the cards regularly and also keep the connection with them. I always try maintaining a connection and see to it I don't rationalise the meanings and my ego doesn't get in the way. It's great to know you've been doing readings for 20 years. I always attune myself to Divine mother, that's because, I feel more devoted and connected to her. Some people, I heard attune themselves to Goddess Tara, who is supposed to be the Tarot Goddess. But should these things be a secret? Am not sure. :)

Meditation indeed is a great honer for one's psychic and extra sensory abilities..It is a relaxing exercise for everybody to get in touch with the Inner Self. In anyway I want it, thru Yoga, TM or the like, meditation keeps my body rhythm, spiritually and healthfully..In Tarot, it seems second nature to meditate on my pack of cards before going on on a reading...(I've got 10 decks). Because of their varied imagery styles in each deck, i can't help associating the traditional divinatory meanings with the new vibes and sensations coming in as I read (meditation). Ergo, reading Tarot is some sort of meditation too...

I may read for some time. I don't mind. You can try it, no harm at all. But there are certain rules like knowing to respect the cards and creating a relation with them. And also other rules, like never cross question a card in the spread. And never stress on the same question again and again. The cards have feelings too and they get rude.

i am still learning to read the cards i believe i get confused because well one of the reasons is because the reading of a certain card means something else to me but if i go and get a book to see there explanation of the card it just dosen't work its like the cards say something else to me i do it my way it is real someones else'e way it doesn't happen for me than when i read it my way it works so the cards definetly talk to everyone i believe different so when it comes to interpreting the cards i believe you all the way since you went there what is blocking me and how do i remove it

You can learn to read cards by meditating on them. That's the best way of learning and also experience takes you there. Meanings in books are just limited and one aspect of the cards. But, the real meaning depends on the question and what the querent wants to know. So, it totally depends on your intuition. So first meditate a lot and create a relation with the cards. They are all living energies. You have to learn to communicate with them and treat them special. So, when you start communicating with them from your heart, they start answering you as well. And always meditate on Goddess Tara. She is the Tarot Goddess. All the best.
