In my job I see a lot of names. Well it seems we have a lot of famous people in our town. Just recently I seen the name William Gates come across my desk. We have Michael Jackson and a Michael Jordan here too. I don't think I would like having a name that's the same as a famous person. These people must get jokes and such all of the time about their names. I see a lot of strange (unusual) names also. Such as Diesel Trucker. I did not include a middle initial or name there. Don't want the poor man bothered. There is the last name T here also. Yes, just "T". That is the entire spelling of the last name. We didn't believe until seen identification. Are there many not so famous "famous" people living in your area? How about unusual names?

I don't know about famous ppl where I live but I'd hate to have the same name as someone famous and then have that person arrested for stuff and be associated like that. My Mom named me Tina after Tina Louise off Giligan's Island but thankfully my middle name is Marie and not Louise. !!HAPPY EASTER!! **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I do agree with that, it would be awful to have the same name as a high profile person that got arrested.

As you may have noticed I have a famous last name as in "Gloria Estefan" the singer. When I had my first child, a girl, my husband wanted to name her Gloria. I said no way as I knew she would be teased at school. Of course, I got my way and we named her something else. What is so funny is that her nickname at school is now "Gloria". Can win can you!!!

Every time I go to pump gas I get a chuckle because the inspector here to make sure the pumps are all correct is "Charles Bronson". I'm sure he's gotten his fair share of ribbing over it. There are also some Tom Sawyer's in the area that I know. There is also a Dale Evans (although a male not a female) I've seen my fair share of well known names held by normal people. I feel for them most times because it must be difficult but I might chuckle privately about it.

Oh my, well atleast that Charles Bronson is in a rather tough field. Could you just imagine if he were a beautician? Aren't we just mean, picking on people's names. It's all in jest though. My little brothers middle name is Randolph, we used to serenade him with the "Randolph the Bow Legged Cowboy" song (to the tune of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer). We got by with it for many years before he realized it wasn't so funny after all.

When I was going to grade school (middle school for you Americans) there was a boy there called Glen Miller. He was named after the famous band leader, because many of us were born during the last couple of years of the war. Oh I was named after my paternal German grandmother who lived in Eastern Europe. So I am not named after a famous band singer. Mind you when I was in my twenties, I heard of a man who was related to a famous scientist and even had the same last name, but his parents or he changed it. I thought it was a shame, since there was no reason such as being persecuted because of his nationality. The only reason was that he did not want to be known as being related to this famous person. I felt that stunk.

Yes, that was a shame, as he gave up a certain part of his heritage by doing that. His children would not have had the distinction of being known as that. I think also having odd names or famous names is good for discussion, breaking the ice so to speaking, meeting new people.

Hi Tess, I used to work at a company that put FASFA applications on micordisk for student loans. I viewed thousands of applications daily and there were many names that were famous or really odd. I mostly came across odd names. I wish I could remember some of them its been a few years since I worked there. Kept me amused I must say. lol Bay Lay Gray xx

Oh but what a beautiful nickname it is after a wonderful singer. You are right, we don't always get what we want. My brother goes by a nickname. We all won and got to pick his name but mom insisted on calling him something else and it stuck.
