Do you have eye problems?

Canada

I have shared in previous posts that I am diabetic. Being one has made my eyesight worse. My sight has always been less than perfect, and my doctor thinks it might be a congenital condition. I kept falling behind on my schoolwork (and falling down stairs and curbs) that my mother finally took me for testing and glasses when I was in Grade Four. My right eye now is up to +875 and my left at +775. The diabetes has also given me cataracts and glaucoma. Being on myLot is really a challenge for me, because I have to have my face almost six inches to the screen, but I love myLot so much I will never stop! What about you, fellow myLotters? Do you find your eyes challenged by your myLot addiction? I do but I don't care! Share your insights, please....(pun intended, LOL!)

Mine are not challenged by my Mylot addiction but by the fact that I am nearsighted and have nyopic astigmatism. My left eye gives me a blurred picture whereas the right eye is much better and has improved since wwearing my last test glasses. I have a big problem because I am unable to read things from far

I am myopic as well, and the astigmatism is worsened by the diabetes. My right eye is worse than my left, which is the reverse of yours. Reading stuff from afar is also difficult for me, which is a major hassle because I am a Realtor and I have to be able to read street signs while driving for night showings! I must say that my eyesight has been much improved by taking Vitamin A and Vitalux tablets (one a day) that my ophthalmologist advised me to do. Thanks for sharing, Sharon38.....

Yes I am visually challenged also and have issues seeing small type. Have always had terrible vision. Been wearing glasses since I was 8 yrs. old. I do also wear contacts and that helps so much, especially at night when driving. I also have cataracts but not to the point of removal. Thinking this won't be long as I see rings around outside lights and one eye is cloudy. I enjoy reading and responding to discussions on MyLot but it is a struggle.

Seeing halos around lights is a sign of astigmatism--which I have too. You can get contacts that help with the astigmatism. Being able to wear contacts was such a blessing for me, but when I was in my mid-40s I developed a sensitivity and was forced to go back to wearing glasses. I love reading and responding to myLot discussions too, and in my line of work, I need to be able to see. Can you imagine a blind Realtor "showing" houses--would be quite a feat, don't you think? Take care and thanks for your response.

eyes - my eyes are perfect so far
Thank God I still have perfect vision at age 31. Maybe it's because I don't read books that much. I also don't watch too much TV. I'm always working with a computer though. Anyway I hope I can maintain this. It must be a hassle having to wear glasses all the time.

I hope you keep your perfect vision, wisedragon, because it is definitely a hassle to be wearing glasses all the time. When you are active and sweating, like when you are gardening, your glasses slide down your nose. When you are coming in from the cold to a warm house, they steam up and you can't see! Treasure your perfect vision, my friend! Eat your carotene-rich veggies, they provide essential nutrients for eye health. Take care and thanks for your response.

yea, i have short sight and i wear glasses for it - just slightly abnormal, not something like i'm totally blind without spects. I have it from 2.5 years. Now, i love to wear glasses, it gives such a mature and decent look to my face, LOL!

Now, there's a good attitude! I love how you like the glasses giving you a "mature and decent look" to your face LOL! For the longest time (since I was 12 yrs. old) up to around age 50) I wore contacts because my glasses were too heavy! At that time, my prescription was too high for the light plastic lenses. Now I have the light lenses, so that's a relief! Thanks for your post.

I also have cataracts. I find my vision is okay in the morning hours and by evening I cannot even see the computer screen. I found out one year ago I had cataracts. I thought I had an eye allergy as my vision was always blurred. I haven't let it slow me down or stay away from my computer. To me the Internet is the best invention ever. I have made wonderful friends worldwide and I shall continue to meet new friends cataracts or not!

I have several friends who told me that having their cataracts removed was like having the sunshine back in their lives! Cataracts make everything go from dim to dark to black, but unfortunately, they have to be fully "ripe" before they can be removed. I have had to resort to some natural teas that I read about in a naturopathic publication, and they seem to be helping, but PM me if you want to know what they are. We are not allowed to discuss natural cures here and I do not want to violate myLot rules. Something to do with FDA regulations....take care and thanks for your response.

There's my other favourite blonde!!! I miss you, my friend! Where have you been hiding yourself? I have not been able to access my yahoo account, I guess it has to do with this laptop being my son's, not mine. I will keep trying so that I can see the Patchouli Kid's Christmas page. That should be something, eh? Love to you both!!! {{{{{{{{{{{{{gabs/Gissi}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

I am not an addict, do not have the personality, and my eyes are not affected by writing or reading on myLot. Rather it is the way that people write all together without separating them into paragraphs. I do find, however, that sometimes for a second my eyes start to blur if I have been at something too long and it is easier to read if there is a stronger contrast between the black text and white on the paper. If it is gray, than it is hard to read the print and I have to use my reading glasses, that I keep for reading extremely small print on medicine bottles or warnings as who will not be insured on the bottom of documents. I have not been tested for years, I used to have astignism, and lazy eye, but I had an operation. Oh diabetes runs in my family, but so far I have not had got it.

I'm glad to know that your lazy eye was cured by an operation. I have a friend who has the same condition, but her eye doctor told her that there is no cure and that over time it will get worse and she will get blind! Can you believe that??!! I told her to get a second opinion, and I will tell her what you told me here. You're lucky that you don't have diabetes--that's a blessing to be grateful for. Keep well and take care. Thanks for your response.

My eye problems started as a result of being on the computer so much during college and my first job. I started realizing that as the day went on, it was harder and harder for me to see things. I went to the eye doctor and she told me that I was suffering from eye strain. Basically, by the end of the day my eyes were just getting tired from working so hard on focusing on the computer screen. I got a very light prescription for glasses and was told to wear them troughout the day. The glasses have actually helped my eyes get a bit stronger and I know have an even lighter prescription from before. In fact, on days that I am not working, I sometimes don't even have to wear my glasses so long as I'm not staring at a screen all day.

My son told me that one can get a shield that slips over the computer screen that helps to reduce eye strain. I myself have not seen it, but when he comes back from assignment out of town I will dig more and let you know. You're really lucky that you don't need to wear glasses all the time! Thanks for your post....

Thanks for the get-well wishes, my friend! Much appreciated...I am happy to know that your father is coping well with the diabetes. You have to be careful, though, because you have a 50% chance of becoming diabetic yourself, because the diabetes gene is carried in the X chromosome and your Dad donated one to make up your pair of XX chromosomes. If you have headaches and dizziness, you may need a new prescription and you need new glasses. Get your eyes tested again, please. Be well, mycharm88, and take care too!

If you are nearsighted, then you have to wear corrective lenses/glasses. Otherwise, your eyesight will get worse and you will get headaches. Please take care, st091127, and thanks for your response.
