My husband and i do our shopping at 3 am usually because my husband doesnt get home from work till then. Well the other day we went shopping well on the way home we stopped at some car lots because there was a car we were not to sure the make and model of it.. well needless to say we got pulled over because there had been some burglurys that evening. When we got home i noticed my childrens lights on and thought well theres some children that are inroubl. so we proceded to unload our grocerys...when we got inside one of my childs friends age 13 was sitting in our living room.. Its 3 am does his parents know hes not home in bed? well i procede to drill him and requested he call home.. he said he cant his father was sleeping and his mother would be home at 4 so i told him to sit tight i will give him a ride home when his mother is home. well i started to put what we got away and i hear the frount door open and close... THE child had flown the coop.UGGGGGGGGGGGG. not knowing much about this child (he had come overr every once in a while) i called the cops. what would you have done in this situation not knowing the parents names or address or a phone number???

OK that boy was probably a run away. Did your kids even know he was there? Maybe he came in without them knowing. I mean the way he ran out of the house before you had a chance to take him home is odd. Like I said I think he might have been a run away. Calling the police was probably the right thing to do.

I never thought about running away. the only one of my children who threatoned running away was my girl who at the time was 6 years old and we told her ok as long as she took her queen size bed ( to much for her to take)

How the heck did he get in your house? I would have done the same thing you did. He must not have wanted to go home and when you offered he was out of there. Hopefully he is not in trouble. Let me know how it goes..

Why was he there? Were your kids up at this time? The next question would have been, what was he after and what did he take with him. I cannot imagine that his parents even knew he was out. I would have found out from the kids, where he lives, and had a visit to the parents.

I think I would have done the same thing. Thats a scary situation to be in because you can;t give the police too much to go on. I hop ehe made it home ok

did your kids know they were there? Gee, I would have called the cops straight away, and woken my kids up for an explanation. As for him running off? Shows the kid may have been having some probs at home. I would have still been mad, but if that was what the matter was, i would have tried to help them. That's it! I am putting locks and alarms on all our doors (including the bedroom etc doors) and windows in the house! lol. Hhhhmmm. That must have been a tough thing for you to deal with.

some children are just unruly and knowing that kids will be kids i didnt want to call the cops right off the bat i wanted the parents to know in order to stop it if it was the first time.. My children knew he was there yes they opened the door (they got a big lecture about that to) I wanted to help him but its hard when you have a husband who didnt want the child there he should be home he said not at our house on a school night at 3 am. I was hoping to drive him home and on the way there try to get out of him why he was out.

ohh its ok if you didnt have the facts its because i didnt give them. I dont know if there are family problems in this childs life. I dont know if he was out that late just because hes not supposed to. I would like to know because if its because he wanted to because he was not supposed to this is not a friend i want my children hanging out with My children are not bad kids but i dont think they need the peer pressure to sneek out

Sorry, I didn't have all the facts. Still, it must have been a shock to your system to see him there. Hhhhmmm, it is sad when a child thinks the only way to escape is to escape into their own little minds. It is neither healthy or right. Hope you do manage to work it out and help him if he will let you.

I would have woken up the child and asked who was this kid in the living room and what was his phone number.
The kid does sound like a run away and you did the right thing calling the police.
I think I would have talked to the kid and rather than saying you were going to take the kid home, I would call the parents telling them where the kid is and then let him/her sleep on the couch.
If the kid was upset, he/she might feel better in the morning, leading the way to better communication.

Absolutely you did the right thing for more reasons than not. If you don't know the family any better than that then what's to say the boy was in trouble or if anything happens to him after leaving your place in the middle of the night, bottom line your house was the last place he was seen. Yes my dear friend you had to call the police. I would have without a doubt. Take Care.
