I am using www.download.com for softwares. It was a very good site. It is also spam free!
Meanwhile, I also use bittorrent to download some stuffs.

You must a torrent downloader. I use azureus. Then you have to search anything you want to download from http. I always torrentspy.com
So you first have to download a .torrent file from http, save it and from the downloader, you open the.torrent file and it will start download for you.

Does bit torrent also downloads from http sites or it is only for the torrents.

Flashget. Its free, fast and supports emule as well as torrents. It does not take up much of your processing speed. Automatically searches for minors to speed up your downloads. Comes in various languages. Supports firefox (provided a add on called flashgot is installed).

Well i am using Download Accelerator Plus (D.A.P.). I just like this one,why? because has an option for acceleration of speed and just saves your downloads in an folder you chose and you have a free version.I am using DAP for some time.I think that is just great.

Yup.I also have used DAP and found it helpful.Right now Iam using IDA.thanks for the participation
