Do you usually sleep on a pillow?

Eversince I started having problems with my back, doctors keep asking me how flat or hard my bed is, whether I sleep on a pillow or not... To me, sleeping on a pillow is as normal as it can be, but I've heard people saying they can't sleep that way.
How do you sleep? With a pillow or without?

I sleep with a pillow all the time. I usually have 2 pillows under my head when I go to bed because I am watching tv and they prop me up. Once I decide to go to sleep I will remove one of the pillows.
Did the doctor recommend that you don't use a pillow because of your back problems?

I too take a pillow when i sleep rather i would feel highly uncomfortable without a pillow but in your case where you are having problems with your back it is surely advisable that you take a hard bed and a very thin pillow if you have to. My mother in law is suffering from back pain and has been strictly advised to sleep on hard bed.

i sleep with a pillow and i do have a hard time sleeping without a pillow. if ever i am going out of town or staying in a place where pillow is not available then i usually use a bag or books or anything that could substitute for a pillow. i guess majority of people use pillow

with a number of pillows - I think because as a child I had asthma and had to sleep virtually upright, so need to have something there! As a therapist I suggest people use at least one really good pillow - preferably a memory foam, contoured one so that the spine is correctly supported at night - our heads are pretty heavy, and can do a lot of damage when allowed to remain for a long time in an incorrectly aligned position.
