Oh yea, dry beans are a great bargain. I like to combine them with the rice. I love red beans and rice.

If my cupboards were bare I would buy dry beans, lintels rice, and mixed frozen vegetables. I would make sure I had eggs, flour and sugar, baking powder, and yeast. I'n not sure of the price of these items but I know that beans are only about $1.00 per lb and when cooked they double in volume as does rice. Flour and sugar is fairly cheap I could make bread and plenty of soup.

I too boil the turkey and add some celery, onions and carrots along with some seasoning such as sage (my favorite with turkey) for a nice broth to make a good soup.

I love making homemade soup! My sweet husband tells me that I make the best soup that he has ever tasted. My favorite one to make is turkey, that is his favorite one also. lol...My husband wrote that while I was cooking dinner.Soup is a great budget stretcher though. I always boil my turkey or chicken bones to make soup.

only 10.00? i hope it using USD currency, he..he..he... coz IDR currency not starting by IDR 1.00. well, $10 also not means a lots at now in my country. i see the inflation getting increase nowadays. its hard to find money here but its easy to spend money coz the price of stuff getting increased :( but the most important thing i would buy rice (2.5) and gaz (3.0). coz rice is basic food in my country and it can make me survive whole of month till i got another money. the rest, i will keep it just in case there is something unwanted condition happening. anyway, why we not borrow money from our friend till we have another money from our pay day :D he...he...he.....LOL

We eat a lot of rice. I make fried rice and add what ever left over meat and veggies we have to it. We dont want to borrow money from friends. We just struggle to get by on our own.

I would buy some chicken, a loaf of bread, 1/2 gallon of milk and some eggs. Even when your cupboards are seemingly bare, you still have the staples in your pantry. Chicken can go a long way. Cook it up once and use it many times. Groceries will be one thing I have to pay close attention to now that my Hubby is unemployed. He was laid-off on Friday of last week. Money will be tight.

Groceries are getting more expensive all the time. We have budgeted 50.00 a week for them. This week though our bills are going to eat into that 50.00,so I am only going to have about 25.00. I buy a whole chicken and roast it for the first meal. Then I use the leftover white meat to make chicken fried rice. Then I boil the carcass and make soup. Noodles and rice are cheap and stretch a long ways. Have you ever heard of angelfood ministries? You get a lot of food from them for 25.00 a month. They are available in almost every state.http://www.angelfoodministries.com/ Here is the link. We have gotten it about 6 times and everything has been high quality. If you have any questions let me know.

That is a really good list. I was thinking of the same things when I read your discussion topic. I was also thinking about noodles, you know the ones that are like 6 sometimes 10 for 1.00 - i think they are called Oodles of Noodles or something like that but they are really tasty. Definitely bread and eggs, rice and maybe some chicken and tuna.

Yea. Ramen noodles are a great buy. I love the pork flavored ones. Sometimes chicken is on sale here cheap. Like .50 cents a pound for leg quarters. I love chicken and rice soup.

WOW - don't think I have ever tried it like that, but my sister in law is italian and she used to let my nephew eat a few strings of spagetti before she cooked it and she said she did that as a kid as well. I guess it won't hurt them, but I prefer mine cooked :-)

I would buy: milk(3.85) bread(.89) eggs (1.39) rice (.89) margarine(.59) ground turkey (1.49) a pound of bananas(.29) I would have to not go shopping for quite a while to have a bare cupboard though. We have a ton on food in there right now. Other than fresh meat, eggs, milk, and bread I could not shop for a few weeks at least and be fine on food.
