I just stumbled on a free firewall from the makers of the award winning Spyware Doctor. The name of the product is PC Tools Firewall Plus I was looking for a new firewall as my old firewall was already obsolete. I first tried outpost (i still had an old free version). However, it wasn't stable (it kept on crashing). I tried the new version (shareware) but it was the same for me. It crashed and kept on bugging me about sending a report. If the report isn't sent, the firewall disappears from system tray (but a check with the running process says its still running). After trying out both, I navigated over to majorgeeks.com to check what were the popular choices for firewalls. That's when I saw the PC Tools Firewall Plus. At first, all that kept me interested was that it was freeware. However, after checking out the site, I found out that its the same company that made spyware doctor. So it was definitely worth trying out. So far, I'm loving it. Its very lightweight and easy to use (even the advanced mode is very easy to use). I also found out that they were also offering a free anti virus software. Again, its worth trying out. The best news however, is that they are offering a free internet security suite (still in beta though). If you want to check it out, head over to their website http://www.pctools.com

Hi qradav, If you are looking for a great free firewall, get comodo firewall pro. Which is totally free and offers the best leak detections, including trojen injection detection. Get it here http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/ Here is a screen shot http://www.mylot.com/w/image/1793367.aspx

Comodo firewall is a very good free firewall around. Equal or in some cases better than those commercial firewalls . It reports almost all the activities on your computer (which sometimes turn out to be annoying ;) ) ..

yes, i have tried zonealarm free, outpost (the old free version), sygate (also had a free version) zonealarm didn't work for me as i have plenty of connections and it keeps on bothering me asking to allow almost every kind of outbound/inbound activity. i was satisfied with sygate but there hasn't been an update for ages so it was time to change it to another one that had new updates to address new threats
