I just read an article by the Associated Press and they talked with full time workers aged 18-64 who have suffered bouts of depression lasting 2 weeks or longer and her is a list of the most depressing jobs and the percentage of workers who suffered from it. I thought that the survey showed several jobs that I would not have suspected to be the most depressing. Top 21 -- Most Depressing Jobs Percentages of full-time workers age 18 to 64 reporting depression lasting two weeks or longer, by categories of occupation, as provided by the National Survey on Drug Use and Health using 2004 through 2006 data: 1. Personal Care and Service: 10.8 2. Food Preparation and Serving Related: 10.3 3. Community and Social Services: 9.6 4. Health Care Practitioners and Technical: 9.6 5. Arts, Design, Entertainment, Sports and Media: 9.1 6. Education, Training and Library: 8.7 7. Office and Administrative Support: 8.1 8. Building and Grounds Cleaning and Maintenance: 7.3 9. Financial: 6.7 10. Sales and Related: 6.7 11. Legal: 6.4 12. Transportation and Material Moving: 6.4 13. Mathematical and Computer Scientists: 6.2 14. Production: 5.9 15. Management: 5.8 16. Farming, Fishing and Forestry: 5.6 17. Protective Service: 5.5 18. Construction and Extraction: 4.8 19. Installation, Maintenance and Repair: 4.4 20. Life, Physical and Social Science: 4.4 21. Engineering, Architecture and Surveyors: 4.3 Number 5 and number 11 were both shocks to me. As I work in retail, I wasn't surprised to see sales and related at the spot it was. I thikn this shows that a lot of people are doing jobs that they aren't happy with but that they have to do for the money and the benefits. Life is so short and yet we can't seem to be happy in the one constant thing that we have to do everyday. Are you happy in your job or are you depressed? What are your reasons for feeling like you do?

Hello there, I suffer from depression, mainly due to marital problems and family problems I think, but my job doesn't exactly help! I am a receptionist in a Medical Centre, which means, not only do I seem to pick up every illness under the sun, but I also get the nastiest, most impatient people coming to the Surgery ever! It's awful, if I make it through the day without getting abused at least once, it's a miracle! Most days, I end up coming home and having a good old cry about what appears to be nothing, and part of that could be down to the depression. I have handed my notice in, thank goodness, and I finish at the end of November! I've just got to get through this last month, so keep your fingers crossed for me!

I will be thinking about you as you finish your last month there and I am glad that you are getting out of there. I would hate to work in a place that depressed me so much that I cried every day.

I am thankful to have a job, but I would like to do more in the long run. I work in banking and it is ok. It provides a steady paycheck so I cannot complain there. I do not have to bring my work home either so that is a plus too.

That is one of the biggest problems in the world today is that people are so stressed at work that it can't help but come home with them. They don't want to constantly be reminded of all the problems but they are. I am glad that you have a job that you like.

The fact is, carolscash, that our very way of life is stressful! There is a constant pressure placed upon people in every walk of life. I no longer work, but I do feel pressure and stress from one source or another all the time. It doesn't surprise me at all that people are stressed out. In striving to become better all the time we set goals that are sometimes impossible to reach without killing ourselves. People should learn to relax more and not be so goal-oriented.

I agree with you! I have really tried the past two years to learn to relax more and enjoy life whatever it brings. I refuse to allow myself to get stressed over the way others think about the way I do things.

I work with food and I'm a cashier and for the first time ever, I had a person throw food at me the other day, I was in tears, I almost quit. It made me really depressed for the first three days it happened. It sucked really bad. But I'm fine now.

I have worked as a cashier in a restuarant and it is a tough job.If someone threw food at me,I would say something to them and I would quit. That is disgusting and I don't deserve to be treated like that.
