What is it that you want to do? I volunteer a lot and find it very rewarding. I think you should make a list of things that interest you: working with children, abused animals, homelessness, battered women...the list is endless. Then do a little research online in your area and find out what programs you can get involved with.
If you like working with children, you could become a Girl Scout leader. I've been a leader for four years and it's much more rewarding than people may think.
Do you love animals? There's all kinds of programs for working with animals - from rescues (horses, dogs, cats...), to volunteering at an animal shelter, to getting involved in stopping horses from being slaughtered for their meat in Mexico and Canada. It's very inhumane!
Find out if there's a local Junior Women's League in your area. They usually have several philanthropies.
I hope this helps!
