I can't sleep, to many thoughts

Sometimes I just have those days where no matter what I do I can not shut off my brain long enough to fall sleep. It is like when I close my eyes my thoughts overtake my brain. While I am trying to relax to fall into the night my thoughts just will not allow it. My life is filled with a lot of things. There is never a dull day. I am just so tired of being tired. Do others experience this? If so, how often?

I'm the same. For me, there is never a dull day either - I have a baby. However, nighttime is the only time someitmes I actually can think my own thoughts. So they crowd in. Or maybe I invite them in, weaving a story to get me to sleep - but then I don't want to fall asleep without knowing what comes next! I'm so tired of being tired. My thoughts - stories - keeping me awake, my bladder and baby waking me up once I've gone to sleep! Are all those beautiful kids yours?

Yes all 6 kids are mine, plus we have a 16 yr old who lives with us because of a bad situation at home with her parents. So 7 in all ranging from 16 down to 7. :)

It seems like lately I've been experiencing this alot. There are alot of issues going on right now. With work, bills, family, etc. I then I was sick for alittle over a week, which didn't help my concerns. Evn though I am so tired. My brain does not want to stop thinking about all these issues. Some days I'd like to have a turn off button. Just be able to turn my brain off for long enough to get a ggod nights sleep.

I experience that when I was in college there are so many things to be done that I don't know what I will do first.

Those times when I feel like that are really the only times that I cant sleep, n that feeling does suck. But something that did help me was making a "To Do Tomorrow" list before I went to bed. Half the things on my lists never even got done, so I dont know whats up with that.. It just felt good to write it down.. like so I wouldnt forget? Lol I dont know, its weird but it helped me.

This is what happens to me every night. The most stupidest things pop into my mind and I just get more and more wound up that I can't sleep, then I'm thinking about not sleeping, then about thinking. It's one big viscious circle. What I have found helpful is trying to 'switch off' before I go to bed. I watch a comedy on TV, I find comedies best as I don't really have to think about it. I turn the volumme down and switch the lights off. I find this relaxing and allows me to get ready for sleep. The other thing is go to bed when I'm tired. I used to wind myself up fighting with myself to sleep just because I thought I should go to sleep at a certain time. This made me more alert and I just ended up disturbing my boyfriend. Now when I start to feel tired I start to relax, ie lights off, comedy on, volumme down and go to bed about 45mins to 1 hour later. This for me is more managable, not ideal but I cope better.
