Hi there again! This gift is a marble tea set from Afghanistan. It is usable, but I choose not to use it. I have it on display in my hutch in the dining room. I think it is quite beautiful as well. It is very simply made but nice. My husband thought it would be a nice set and sent it home for me. Enjoy!

that is awesome. I got something from my husband is last deployment to iraq that looks a little like that but it's got six of the cups with it and it's supposed to be a marriage type thing.

What a sweet sentiment. I do love getting things from him and finding out what they mean or a little bit about the culture. It's very interesting. Thanks for responding!

I suppose in Afghanistan, they just use it like we do when we bring out the best silverware. And if you did use it, you would have to prepare Afghanistan dishes, since it is probably quite valuable if you had bought it here. It must have taken a lot of skill to use it. I mean real marble and not just porcelain. At least with marble, in shipping, it does not break.

My husband shipped it home and it did get a chip from shipping, but he really didn't pack it well. Men! hahaha! But it is still a very lovely set and I would love to learn about different cuisine just to be adventurous and pull out my marble set hehehe! Thanks for responding.

Most things like this from other countries/cultures should be displayed and noty used I think. Just my thoughts and what I do with my gifts as well. Mine are in the Hutch in the dining room and the entertainment center in the living room.
HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Thanks, I think so too! I like the tea sets he sent me. The marble one is a little heavy but it's still very nice!
