My mother would never dream of having me marry someone I don't love. Then again, being from a French family, she would probably not necessarily expect me to marry. As long as I'm happy, with the man I love, she'll be happy.

My parents had an arranged marriage over 40 years ago and then came to live in the UK. I was born here and there are about 50% of Indians here who get arranged and 50% who get love marriages. Whichever one you have, sadly these days there is still as much chance to get divorced. The people I know who had arranged marriages and got divorced, whether it be because their husband cheated on them or beat them up, their parents blamed themselves for what they see as ruining their son or daughter's lives. I personally chose a love marriage and am very happy with my husband. My parents even say that they could never have chosen a better guy for me as they absolutely adore my hubby.
I would always prefer love marriage personally as I believe it if goes wrong, at least I made the mistake myself and not make my parents feel bad for choosing someone who did not treat me well. NOT that I have anything against people who have arranged marriage - just that in this day and age there is as much chance of love or arranged marriage going wrong and as much chance of either type of marriage being successful.

Love for sure.. I could NEVER marry someone I didnt love.. But thats just me.. I want to enjoy being with the peron I love for WHO they are not because my family told me to love them.
If my family told me to marry someone that I didnt know or love, Id tell them to go JUMP!

Obviously it depends on where you are, how you were brought up, and what your culture dictates. That said, I opt for a love marriage. It's tough enough to make a go of it in this world with the support and love of a spouse. If that love is not there it's next to impossible for both parties to be happy (MTCW).
