I am a Filipino and as soon as I saw the episode of desperate housewives (you tube) with terry hatcher making a comment about Filipino doctors, I got mad. It's because next year I'll be working in U.S. too, as a registered nurse, and if people there would underestimate my capabilities, I don't think they're worth serving. I know they can make me rich, but that doesn't give them the right to insult anyone. We deserve some respect, after all the hard work we gave to be competent with our profession. Anyway, our government already demanded an apology to the producers, and they responded with a letter. But Filipinos in America are still demanding that the producers should erase the part with the negative comment on it. Do you think we over-reacted to the issue? Or we are just demanding what is due us?

I am sure that you will be handle negatively because of your origin in America. Either you accept it or not. It is not only about the Desperate Housewives. On the other hand people who are working in the media must not encourage the racism.

i am working in media too and in my experience we make sure that the lines doesn't make comments on other race especially chinese and koreans who are increasing in population and yes media should be responsible for whatever it is that they are airing coz millions of people are watching around the world especially most people rely on information that they get on television.

I think its no different from years of Sanford and Son making fun of the whites and mexicans, or All in the Family making fun of black people or the Jeffersons making every racial slur against white people they can think of. Not familiar with these shows? Well they were and still are on tv and no one has bee asked to go back and remove any racial remark that was made. Everyone has a stereotype, all of us!! What makes the Filippinos think they are so much better than anyone else who deserves an apology from a racial remark from a telivision actor? Get over it! If you dont want to work in the states as a nurse then dont. If you think your so great then stay where you are and work as a nurse in your own country. Now your making me worried about wether or not I will run into you in a medical facility and you will do a half a**'d job because of a remark by an actress??? Will that be a valid excuse to say that medical personell from the Philippines are unreliable?? Sine you said that you wouldnt care as much by saying we are not worth serving. Then stay in the Philippines and serve there. Dont bother coming to America with that kind of attitude about nursing!!

I wish you and other flipino's would understand a few things but I guess unless your mind is open, it won't learn a darned thing. Terry Hatcher was only doing her JOB. She did NOT write the script, someone else did and she was just following it word for word. Besides that, every race has something to laugh about. It doesn't matter who you are or what you are or where you're from, everybody has some kind of quirk that other people laugh at. For instance, such as the arabs, they were those sheets on their heads. Those who laugh at them for that, are they going to get slammed for that too? Come on! Lighten up!

"Besides that, every race has something to laugh about. It doesn't matter who you are or what you are or where you're from, everybody has some kind of quirk that other people laugh at." Thank you CatsandDogs, thats what I said too! I think Red Foxx owes many races an apology, mostly hispanics, Carrol O'Connor owes black people an apology and Sherman Hemsley owes the white people an apology then! They are still showing those episodes on TV today and no one is asking for an apology.

I know that you are personaly afected by the comment but every nationality is generalised and we see comments about everyone every day: Italians, Greeks, Mexican, Chainese, Serbs and everyone hears comments about them all the time. We know that all Italians are not in the "family" buisness, all African Americans are not criminals so dont let it get to you.

Filipinos are proud of their nationality and it wasn't a surprise for me that the whole Filipino community reacted that way. After this incident was brought to my attention, I felt sorry for the Filipinos who were misrepresented by the writers of Desperate Housewives. Instead of blaming it all on Teri Hatcher, we must divert this anger to the writers and producers instead. In my own opinion, they are most responsible for this. They are the ones who has discretion on every detail of the show. Since the damage has been done and certain actions had been made, I think everyone should now move on...
