How many hours do you have to work weekly? In Hungary the legal full-time is 40 hours/week. Of course there are jobs people where people work 12hours a day, but the monthly accounting must be calculated with the 40hours week. How is it in your country?

Hi Dolcerina! In the Philippines where I am from, it is 8 hours per day which is 40 hrs per week, but some are required to do overtime which is also legal and they are paid accordingly. Take care and have a nice day.

In the EU there are dscussion about reducing the 40hours to 35 or 38. But the countries cannot agree. And it causes many changes in everything.

Hi Dolcerina! I could only guess, maybe it is because the government would want to have their constituents a more balanced life and not to spend more time on work but to have some time for themselves, their family and their friends. Well I am just guessing on this. hehe..Just my thoughts dear friend. Take care and have a wonderul day. :)

In fact in my country people are happy to have a job, sometimes they do not have possibilities to select. If it pays good for saturdays, why not?

With us too..the 40 hour work week is considered the regular interval for regular pay..Usually anything over 40 hours is considered overtime and pay is usually time and a half. There are those who are "salary" employees here..and these do not get paid per hour but agree upon a salaried pay ..a set weekly or bi-weekly pay that doesnt change by the increase of hours.

I wonder how the 40 hours became so usual. EU wants to decrease this number. (that sounds good) I believed, that the working hours are more different in the countries.

Hi Dolcerina, full time here in the U.S. is considered 40 hrs a week usually but there is not set amount of time you have to work. Some people work more (overtime) and some people work less (part time). Most places will pay time and a half for overtime.

Hello Dolcerina, I'm from Romania and we have the same work plan, 8 hours per day, or 12 per day and 40 per week. That's now wonder because our country are neighbors. ;) Take care, ScarFace.

Here in the United States there is no set hours that you have to work. It is up to the employeer. But if you do work over 40 hr. per week you get paid time and 1/2. Some jobs do not stop just because you have worked 40 hr. My son worked for a refergeration company, Making sure that the refegeraters in the store were kept running as they should. He sometimes worked 12 to 14 per day. But he made good money. I believe that nurses working in a hospital work 12 hours a day to make the 40 hours per week. There are people that work in many business that have to work on saturday and Sunday because most business are open All day sat and Sun.

The same in Romania: 8 hours a day, from Monday to Friday. Totally 40 hours a week.

working accountant - working accountant for long hour
It is normally 8 hours a week, 8*5=40 hrs a week. But I have seen the account worked over 40 hours but still the same amount of money. It depends on the budget and work. When they finish work they can have a rest.

here in our place the regular working hours are 8 hours, so it means any hours beyond that will be considered overtime,. i just dont know if it is applicable to all.

In India it is 8 hours a day, but not five days, it is 6 days a week . So 48 hours in a week. Beyond that, it will be paid extra according to the rule. But the management staff have to work more than 10 hours a day, but generally, there will not be overtime payment for the management staff. But after globalisation things changed a lot. The major MNC s will not pay the overtime. These MNCs are working only five days a week.
