Please, bring your dogs in and make your outdoor dogs part of the family. Dogs long to be a part of your "pack" and that includes sleeping in the "den" with their people. They do so much better if they can come in at night and if your home is their home. They will live longer too. And even the biggest dogs can be very good around the house. They may be so excited to be there the first couple times, but with love and a tiny bit of training and exercise they can be very mannerly in the house. They deserve it.

Oh ours are definately part of the family. They are right there with us when we are home. Our Lab actually sleeps in my sons bed, even though my son is away at college. When it's time to go to bed he right off to his bed. Our small dog sleeps in the closet in our son's room. You can't tell they miss our son can you?

Oh when you said "indoor or outdoor" i thought you meant that you had some dogs that you allowed in the house/some you didn't. :) Sorry about that.

I don't know why people get dogs if they are going to confine them to the backyard and never let them in. They are pack animals and should be part of the family, indoors and out.

I have indoor dogs, they are referred to as deople. I think if we could get them toilet trained, that they would be happy never going outside.
I want a dog that is happy to see me, who stays by my side and is there for me, I have found that to be very true with indoor dogs.

Our Lab grew up with our son. Everywhere he went he thought he had to go too. When he would leave the house and not take him he would whine like crazy

We have two large dogs and five cats and they are all mostly indoor pets. Our oldest dog Tasha is going into her 16th year and Cherokee is 7 years and they both sleep outside during the spring, summer and fall. Then they are in the the house and only go out to do their business. During the day they are great companions and stay in the house most of the time.
Same thing with our 5 cats..they have all been fixed and remain in the house. We live in a rural area and letting animals run free can shorten their lifespan because we live near the highway and we are fortunate to have magnificent bird of prey to observe...but they also love to catch smaller animals like cats in the natural cycle of life.
So...indoor animals have my vote!I have included a photo of our two dogs with a couple of our cats wandering by.

I honestly have to say that I prefer outside dogs because I cant stomach cleaning up after inside dogs until they learn to let you know when they have to go outside. However if someone else is cleaning up after them I have no problems with an inside dog either.

Amanda, if a dog is housebroken/crate trained you won't have to clean up messes so much. It may take time to do, but its very rewarding to housetrain a dog.

Both our dogs were given to us at an later age, so we never had to deal with breaking them...We have a bell on the front door, that the one that stays in most of the time paws at when she is ready to go out. The Lab if great he just goes to the door and waits for you. He never let in the house unless we are home and he is right at our feet, so if you notice him gone you know he is at the door.

I find that indoor dogs tend to have better tempermant and are more loyal towards their owners, therefore I have more of a passion for the indoor dogs. I suppose that having them outdoors would cut out that "doggie smell" from your furniture though, but still not worth it in my opinion.

I prefer indoor dogs. I can't imagine why anybody would want a dog and then force it to live outside, especially if the so called 'reason' for not wanting an inside dog is something that can easily be solved by simple training.
