Many religions- many paths

We live in a world of great variety, why should it surprise anyone that there would be many paths, to God/gods? Let us consider for a moment that ours is not the only way, but just one of many ways. There have been some, down through the centuries, who have seen this, but their numers were far too few. I ask only that people stop and quietly reflect, instead of jumping to defend their way. Let us at least give respect to other great traditions. Can we find a way to practice our own faith, without making others wrong for the way in which they practice their faith? Blessings to all.

All rivers lead to the Ocean; similarly all religions lead to the Godhead - this unifying view brought people of different faiths, languages, races and cultures together to throw off the British colonial yoke in in India. Gandhi's "My Experiments with Truth" makes for an interesting read for anyone interested in the subject. Unfortunately he was assassinated by a religious bigot who could not tolerate his kindly policy towards the war-mongering Moslems. Pose, your view is certainly utopian and is a philosophy that will promote harmony and peace. When economics, politics and greed seize philosophy and religion wars occur . Whether the war takes the shape of planes crashing into buildings or an early morning round-up and shooting of Palestinians it is still war. Can we find a way.....without making others wrong... you ask. My view is that: While a few can evolve into this higher state of consciousness that will "live and let live" most will seek to prove their righteousness by damming others.

Hi coffeechat, Thank you very much for responding. I really love your comments. Gandhi is one of my greatest hero's. He was without doubt, the greatest man of the twentieth century, perhaps many centuries. We must all seek to promote peace and harmony in the world, and I hope that more people will see the absolute necessity of it. I wonder why so many people feel that their way has to be right, and make it their personal mission to convince others, no matter what? I guess we are fortunate that these people no longer have access to the kind of torture used in the middle ages, at least in the western world. Blessings.

There is only one way and only one God, the way is through Jesus Christ and not through Buddha, Mohammad, Allah, or whom ever god or great man you believe in. Since many other religions have conflicting views as to who is right and who is wrong, how can you expect them all to go to heaven and get along? Our world is imperfect, and we can get along with people and not fight, but I cannot be silent about my faith just because others do not like it and I pray that all will come to the knowledge of God, and that Jesus Christ is HIS son and they rule in Heaven over the whole universe. Respecting traditions is one thing, but that means because one person is from India, and another one is from China, and one is from Ireland, that they have to believe in Shiva, Communism, and Wiccan or the old Celtic religion, and that they cannot be converted? Is our religion determined by our background and the country wherein we were born and the religion that was there in ancient times. That sounds rather cruel to me that you do not think Christians are allowed to convert, whereas Muslims, Buddhists and Wiccans can.

Hi suspenseful, Thank you for responding. I would like to first comment on your last statement. I did not say that Muslims, Buddhists and Wiccans are allowed to convert and Christians can't. I ask only that we all respect each other. If someone outside one's religion expresses an interest in the faith, it is fine to help them understand, and if they wish to convert that is okay. I respect your belief, but please remember that others are equally sure that they are right. I was born and raised in the Christian tradition, and raised my three sons in the same way. I refuse to condemn others because I find much the same teachings in all great religious traditions. Please believe me when I say that I want only what is best for everyone. We really need to better understand and respect each other if we are ever to live together in peace. Blessings.

springlady is right. Being a Christian there is only one way to heaven to be with God Jesus said very plainly that "I am the Way, Any that want to get to heaven must enter through me". Now that said I won't condem any one that doesn't agree with me because only God knows the heart and he alone is to judge the heart.

Hi deebomb, Thank you for responding. I see how sure you are of your faith, and I respect that, just remember that others are equally as sure as you. Thank you for not condemning anyone who doesn't agree with you, you can be sure that God doesn't either. Blessings.

Hi Pose123! My sentiments exactly! Let us not all be judgemental to one another and let us just find goodness in each other. We all have our own beliefs, religion and traditions and we have to learn how to respect and get along with one another. With that, I believe that we will have a beautiful life together. Take care and have a nice day. More blessings to you my friend.

"Can we find a way to practice our own faith, without making others wrong for the way in which they practice their faith?" Sadly for so many they are incapable of doing that...Either because thats how they've been raised or thats how their specific religion has commanded them and so on.....I personally feel that its NECESSARY and important for us to all stand strong in our beliefs but ALSO allow, accept and actually praise/applaud etc those who belief different to us because they are strong and proud just like we are....

Yes, you are corretc on these one my friend. It's not about the differences of religion nor beliefs, but the faith we have in it and the way we are living by these religions we believe in. We'll all walk the same path when time comes, so it would be better if we all love one another and treat each other as brothers & sisters.

Hi Pose, There is only one true God and that is the living God. He is the God Who loves us beyond measure...enough to send His one and only Son, Jesus Christ, to come and take away our sins. He loved us so much, that He made a way for us to be with Him forever. We are sinners and because we are sinners, we need Christ. Some can deny it all they want. The Truth is that we need Him desperatley. I pray that many will come to know Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. He is the greatest! You will be saved and have an abundant life. Yes, you will have struggles, but you will never be alone because Christ is there with you thru it all and will get you thru it. Knowing Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior...the greatest thing there is! God bless!

Hi Springlady, Thank you for responding. It is clear that you are very firm in your belief and I respect that. I ask only that people respect each other's belief. The Mormon, the Muslim and others are equally as sure as you, that they are right. This attitude has caused many problems in the world. You may not consider me a Christian, but that is the faith in which I was raised. I try to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ, but I find the same teachings in other world religions as well, and so I will never condemn them. Blessings.

Absolutely true. I totally agree with you and I have been reflecting on this for years now. But the only answer I arrived at was, it's not possible to raise your voice when nobody wants to listen. But, your actions can speak louder. They surely can make an impact on the environment. They can surely help people to understand what you want to say. And The Art of Living Guru Shri Shri Ravishankar is doing it already. He has reached unimaginable places on the earth and talked to all the world leaders, and even met extremist groups and religious leaders and convinced them of the common goal of every path. And all of us can do the same. But how? By first realising the truth ourselves, and then leading others following a different path by making them understand the common truth thats under the water. The oceans have different names and different colours, but they all taste the same. Don't they? They are all salty. Similarly, the paths and religions, all have a different name, but the goal is the same, the ideals and morals and prinicples are all the same. They are not different at all. The only way to practice our own faith without proving others wrong is by following it quietly and not stepping over another's boundaries. We must respect and give each other enough space. :)

Hi cobradene, Thank you for commenting. You certainly have great insight, and I must agree that the goal of all religions is the same. Quietly following our own way, and allowing others to do the same will indeed work wonders. Blessings.

I don't know what to say...and I am just wonderin' why so many religions exist when there's only one God. But God is good. He respects each one us that's why He gives us our own free will as a gift. I just hope everyone will come to know who is the real God before it's too late... Though I respect everyone's religion or what they believe in.

Hi mirira, Thank you for your comment. I agree with you, and this is the sort of thing that we must avoid. The people who kill others in the name of God don't understand the true teachings of their religion. They have been led astray by fundamentalists. It is very important that we learn to respect each other, if we are ever to live together in peace. It is good that you welcome all religions, that is what need to see in more people. Blessings.

Dreaming of a perfect world... and how wonderful would that be?! I've never had a problem accepting people for who they are... and what they believe is part of that. My wish has always been for people to understand and care about each other, not hurt or try to win points... wish it wasn't so hard for some to accomplish! But we can hope, and maybe see some positive changes in our generation!
