I've signed up for NBA.com's Stock Exchange Game and I remember playing it for a couple of weeks last season before losing interest and focusing on my Yahoo! Fantasy Game leagues instead. This year, however, I'm more keen on getting a better rank, and I can't really pinpoint why.
For those of you who are not aware, the Stock Exchange Game is a free-to-play game that is a lot like your regular fantasy basketball game with an added twist: all NBA players are given stock values which serves as the basis for all trades. No more worrying whether or not you can get Kobe Bryant, Kevin Garnett, LeBron James, or Shawn Marion on draft night; as long as you can afford the player's stock value, he's yours. The dynamics of supply and demand come into play in this game, meaning if one player is on the rise (let's say, Andrea Bargnani or LaMarcus Aldridge), you can expect his stock value to rise over the course of the season, depending on how many players "own" him in their rosters.
You will be given $300 worth of fantasy credits for use in shopping around for your picks, and it's all up to you to fill your roster with your favorites. As a tip from me, since the season hasn't started yet, it's wise to stock up on undervalued players. For example, Rashad McCants was priced at the minimum ($1), but because of the recent trade that sent Ricky Davis to Miami, the Minnesota Timberwolves now project him starting for them. As of this writing, his value's up by more than 1000%, now costing $11.67. I was lucky enough to nab him for a little less than $7, but even more lucky are those who were able to get him at his bargain price of $1. Do the math: those players have $10 more to spend on better players, enough to upgrade Andre Miller to Carmelo Anthony. Sound nice, huh?
I wasn't able to get any sleep because of this game, as I have been carefully monitoring my stock. You might want to try it out yourself, as it's still not too late as there still is time before the regular season tips off.
If you're already an NBA player, feel free to post a response here and let me know what you think about the game and your roster.
