How Long Do You Let Your Dusting Chore Go?

I was inspired by a favorite bear MyLotter who he himself always has thought-provoking, and serious discussions, such as I'm about to do here now... So the question is...To my mind I hate dusting...it's the most unproductive household chore going....you dust one day, and a few days later to a week, you realize you need to do it all over again...Now I have a lot of bookcases, and shelves...the worst to dust...and I have to admit while I'm a neat freak in others areas...gasps...I do let the dusting go until I can't stand it anymore, or I start sneezing like crazy, as I'm allergic to dust... So...how long do you let the dusting chore go? Are you a frequent duster? Do you dust at least once a week? Or do you let the dusting go for so long that you can write your name with your finger and little piles of dust are blowing in the wind like tumbleweeds?

Dusting Time! - I dust every two to three weeks.
Like you, I'm a neat freak and I clean my house every two weeks unless for some unknown reason I'll skip a week and clean the following week. Dusting is one of the cleaning that I do. First I clean my kitchen really good (not much to do in there since I clean it every day) then I clean all of the animal bowls, all three bathrooms, dust, clean mirrors and tv's, change sheets, sweep porches, vacuum and scrub. When my rugs are finished drying on the wooden rack (winter time) I'll lay them down again. I like to clean from top to bottom so that I get all the dirt on the floor before I vacuum so it's the last thing I do.

I used to do all that... a million years ago when I was young and had the energy. I even polished all the chrome in the kitchen with a special chrome polish. Now that I'm old and tired, I only clean when I absolutely have to. I live alone and the only regular visitor I get is a pack-rat so nobody's complaining.

And, oddly enough, last night I had decided that today would be the day I wash my dishes and tidy up the kitchen... haven't started yet... checking my email is more important. :o)

Im with you on that one!LOL I really hate dusting. And its so easy to do but I just despise it! I guess its because we dust and a couple of days its right back. I do have to admit when things are all dusted it does look nice.LOL Now do you use furniture spray? I do I figure if Im going to do that task I want it to look nice and shiney.

Yes when things are dusted there is a nice clean feeling to the place..heck the air even smells better..LOL..nope never used any furniture spray...usually use a bit of Murphey's soap for wood, but for my metal shelves when I dust use a "sparkling wave" or "caribbean mist" cleaner to make them smell nice

Ok, I admit it. I am not a frequent duster. It's sad, I know, but I hate that chore with a passion. That one's right up there, with doing windows. I rarely do that either. Basically, if I dust more than once a month, I'm doing good. lol I'm loaded with allergies, and I have asthma. Now, when you add the fact, that I'm allergic to cats, dogs, dust, etc. my dusting habit, is not a good thing. But, until I either, can afford a maid, or learn to love the chore, it's gonna have to wait.

Gee...I don't even think I dust once a month..so you're better than me..LOL...I know so many pet rescuers who are actually allergic to cats and dogs..yet they still couldn't think of doing anything else but be rescuers...

Years ago, my allergist told me, that I could be killing myself, because I refused to put my cats and dogs outside. I told him, that I was gonna die someday, anyway, and I'd never be happy without my babies by me, so if I die a few years early, at least I will die a little happier. He never mentioned it again. lol

Hi pyewacket! Oh this is serious alright, very thought-provoking! I think I have to really pause for awhile and put on my thinking hat. haha.. Oh, well I do my dusting every other day because if I let two days pass without dusting, I can surely write my name or draw my husband face on it. haha.. Take care and have a nice day.

I only dust when I absolutely have to. It doesn't take long, but I've always got something better to do. The last time I dusted was September 2nd most likely... We had a party on the 3rd, so I'm sure I dusted the day before. It is starting to look bad so I might have to get it done again this weekend.

I love tumbleweeds, so when my dust bunnies grow to the size of tumbleweeds. it is time to take serious action. lol. I can live with some dust, but it does pile up after a while and you can never get it all picked up.

It's hard to believe, pyewacket, but this is the second post I am responding to on the subject today, lol. I am the queen of the slackers when it comes to dusting. I have always hated it. Like you said, it is the most unproductive household chore I can think of. I would be at the head of the line among housekeepers who can write their name in the dust. Sometimes my kids will come over and remark on the dust I've allowed to build up. I just smile and tell them that with my poor eyesight, I hardly even notice it.(:

Mmmm...maybe that would be a good excuse with me...I have lousy vision too, so I could claim that I don't notice the dust myself because of it..LOL

Oh pye, shame on me..haha..probably once a month, my bad. I HATE dusting, just plain hate it!, plus, I'm short, so then I have to climb on chairs to reach the top two shelves of my book cases, some of the windows are high, what a pain it is. And I, like you, have an allergy to dust, and all those little creepy dust mites have a field day with me, I could just hear them all laughing. The rest of the cleaning I don't mind, but dusting, yuk!

I hate dusting. My mom was a clean freak but luckily she didn't pass that down to me. LOL. There are many places around my house where you can write things in the dust. I need to get motivated to do it soon. I started cleaning my room out of unneeded junk so hopefully my motivation will continue.

I dust every weekend- We have a wood stove so I swear our house is dustier than most- Sometimes I will even dust mid week and again on the weekend- I love the Pledge Multi purpose wipes- they are perfect for the small dusting jobs. Easy- open one up and dust- takes minutes.!

Yikes..lol I normally try to dust 3 times a week. I also have lots of bookcases. I can't stand dust, dirt, dirty dishes..lol. I will normally just fill a small ice cream bucket with scented water and wash everything down as actual dusting just puts the dust back into the air, whereas a damp cloth collects the dust better and doesn't put it back into the air. For other things, such as the tv screens, mirrors, I use a spray bottle with vinegar and water and a soft cloth to go over on the same days. Speaking of which..today is one of those days and it is time I get started....

Like you, I hate dusting as well. I haven't personally dusted my house since this past spring after I closed my f/p up for the warmer months. My daughter does dust on occassion but not very good. Usually it gets done bout once a year.

My dad used to get mad at me because he'd let the dust get so thick on his TV that it looked fuzzy. So I'd put stripes down the screen with my finger as a "Clean ME" demonstration. Then it became so habitual that every time I went over there, I unconsiously swiped my fingers across his screen. He'd get so mad and make me clean it. Hee hee... I don't dust very often... can't reemmber when I did it last...

Earth Goddess Pleaing For Help - With Global Warming Coming we need to do all we can to help Mother Earth so we can pass a healthy planet down to our future generations.
Oh SQUIREx, thank goodness it is not next to Goddesslieness! I spend most of the time that I am feeling well doing things that are good for the earth; such as teaching children how to recycle and the importance of recycling. To me that's a big deal; but a dusty mantle - just not so big of a deal to me. We all have our different ways of expressing ourselves and I respect and appreciate that your way is equally good.- Blessed Be~D
