How do you make a taco salad?

Well, I made the trip to the grocery store and came home with lots of taco fixings. But, I'm thinking about making taco salad instead of traditional tacos. I think that might be healthier, considering you have to use actual veggies.
When I was a kid, we had taco salads weekly. And, they were delicious. But, I can't remember what goes into them or how they are made. Can anyone help me out with this one? Got any good taco salad recipes I could use? Preferably low sodium. What type of veggies do you use? Thanks.

here is a recipe I have made time and time again.
Tortilla Beef Bake
1 1/2 lbs ground beef
1 can 10-3/4 oz cream of chicken soup, condensed undiluted
2 1/2 c. crushed tortilla chips, divided
1 jar salsa
1 1/2 c. cheddar cheese.
Cook beef until done, drain. Stir in soup. Sprinkle 1 1/2c. tortilla chips in a greased shallow baking dish ( 2 21/2 qt baking dish) Top with g. beef mixture salsa and cheese. Bake uncovered at 350 for 25-30 min or until bubbly. Sprinkle with remaining chips. Bake 3 min longer or until chips are lightly toasted. Yield: 6 servings.
NOTE: I have stirred kidney beans or pinto into this. You could also serve it with lettuce, tomatoes and etc what you normally would put on your tacos. My kids and hubby just loves this. I have also put corn in it instead of the beans. Be creative with this!!

Thats how I make my taco salad as well. And it's the best! Yum is so right. I love lots of cheese on mine. I use 3 different kinds that I shread and toss together. I also use cherry tomatoes cut in half.

Tacos & taco salad are yummy. This is one way to prepare it:
TACO SALAD
1 lb ground beef
1 envelope taco seasoning
1 10 oz. can kidney beans
1 c. grape tomatoes, halved
1 head lettuce, shredded
1 12 oz pkg. shredded cheddar cheese
1 12 oz bag nacho cheese flavored Doritos, crushed
1 16 oz. bottle Italian salad dressing
Brown ground beef and add taco seasoning. Simmer according to directions. Place in large bowl and refrigerate until cool. Add beans, tomatoes, lettuce, cheese, and Doritos. Mix well.
Cover with salad dressing. Mix again. Serve almost immediately.

shredded or cut lettuce, with pieces of avocado, tomato, onions, black olives, kidney beans... tossed with a little russian dressing, topped with taco filling meat, shredded cheddar cheese, crumbled taco shells, sour cream, salsa, and taco sauce.
not sure that it is any healthier to eat, but maybe a little less messy.

Basically, anything you put on a taco can go into a taco salad. Seasoned meat, cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, salsa, avocado/guqcamole, sour cream, etc. My sister makes a taco salad with 1 lb of ground beef that's been cooked and made with a packet of taco seasoning, then adds a couple of chopped tomatoes, shredded lettuce, drained sliced black olives, cheese, a bag of crushed nacho cheese doritos and a small bottle of catalina salad dressing. It's REALLY good. She also adds scallions if she's in the mood for it. I've done taco salads where I just made the taco fixins as I normally would and toss them together in a bowl then top with sour cream or guacamole. Then I use tortilla chips or tostada shells on the side.

When we have tacs we do the beef and add seasoning and fry it all up. we do what we call haystacks. You start on your plate with the corn chips then add the luttice the beef then beans (Pinto beans not the refried ones) next the cheese and tomatoes onions olives salsa and top all that off with sour cream. The taco salad is just all the fixings for tacos but juat not put in a taco shell.

What I would definitely do is: add ground beef with Mexican spices, cut-up lettuce, diced-up tomatoes, diced-up peppers, tortillas, olives, Mexican shredded or melted cheese, and sour cream. That is how I will make homemade NACHO SUPREME. I used to order it at a restaurant at Super KMart. Sometimes, I will definitely add black beans.
