My teeth are annoying me.

Life has been so weird lately. About two weeks ago my crown fell out on my upper job in the back left. I got in to see a dentist and he glued it back in but said there just wasn't much tooth left to glue it to. Well, a week later it fell out again. I tried regluing it with temperory dental glue but it fell out after one meal, so I just left it out. So it's been out about 5 days but my face just aches. So Sat. I went to a didgeridoo class, which uses your tongue and cheek muscles a lot. So today my face is all sore and aching, and I honestly don't know if this is relating to the crown falling out, or to muscles soreness from trying to play the didgeridoo on Sat. and Sun. It's scary to have my face aching and not knowing the cause. Chewing of course is very difficult, so it may just be sore from chewing my food 1000 times instead of 100 times. So I skipped breakfast and had a baked potato for lunch. Eating is something I dread instead of enjoy now. I just hope this soreness goes away soon because its so distracting and worrisome I can't even work or enjoy my day.

It's hard to say for sure what is causing your aches & pains. I wouldn't have thought that your crown falling out would cause that much pain. I strongly suspect the didgeridoo, as your were using muscles in a forceful way that you may not have used before. You can really only wait a day, & if it doesn't improve, return to the dentist.

I agree Jenny. In fact, with the fires in S. California this may well be a sinus infection. Or a combination of all of the above.

Did your dentist have any other recommendations? They do have a bunch of alternatives available and if nothing else can be done, you can always have what is left of the tooth removed and then get a "bridge" or "partial" denture to take it's place. At least it would stop the pain.

Thanks for your thoughts. The crown fell out so that's no longer an option. I need dental implants but those cost thousands of dollars so that's not happening either.

Playing your didgeridoo probably just aggravated an already tender area. It seems you have 'overworked' your muscles! Dental pain is the one thing I usually will not discuss, as I am the world's biggest scaredy cat of the dentist, any dentist. I am also one tough cookie and it always takes two shots to numb me but the dentists NEVER listen to me...so I will receive one shot (Doc says it's more than enough!) But then he goes to manuevering inside my jaw and the one nerve not numbed is the first one he touches! So then I have to wait another little while, so the next numbing shot can take effect. Why can't they just listen in the first place? If it is the dental work or lack thereof, you may need to extract that tooth. If there isn't enough tooth left to work with, then just get it pulled out. It will be a gap on the jawbone, but the pain and future issues with a damaged tooth will go away!

I would definitely recommend going back to your dentist about it. He might be able to give you a crown or something, because obviously just gluing it back in isn't working that well for you. I would also recommend trying to eat applesauce, soup, mashed potatoes, pasta, etc -- softer foods will mean less chewing for you. I'm also not sure how you feel about pain medication, but maybe taking some aspirin would help you feel a little bit better?
