Hi all. I am an amatuer poet and recently my poem got selected to be published. It has also been entered into a contest and I am currently shopping it around to get my name out there and hopefully win this contest. If you would not mind rating it for me I would really appreciate it. Please give me your honest feedback here and on the ratings scale. Thanks! Do some research on this ! If the location of this www.poetry.com site is Owings Mill MD . . . PLEASE STAY CLEAR OF THIS SITE!! Since their inception in 1983 they withheld a fairly credible reputation with poets and their works. They did feature a few thousand or so new poets between 1990 and 1999, but something drastically went wrong with their site, credibility, authenticity, and hundreds of people were not in receipt of contest earnings, proper recognition, loss of time and work to attend a conference in which their work was to be featured by them (and some never were invited nor attending and still got paid but those that did not, well they earned little and spent loads !
I am one of those long-lost poets featured and published in their leather-bound anthology book (my ex-husband swiped, long story) from 1996 after receiving from www.poetry.com then known as "The National Library of Poetry" at 1 Poetry Plaza- Owings Mills Maryland 21117 www.poetry.com
I had received their Editor's Choice Award for one of my works and the recognition was good payment ZERO ! and paying for the leather-bound book featuring my poem was a little package under $200.oo bucks ! Yes indeed little lady they charge you when you win and you will, every time because they need the advance monies so bad. BE CAREFUL ! My agent warns me of this scam, around since the milenium began and a virus caused company panic: the end result copyright infringement and author humiliation.
I would rather you seek an agent or publish on-line your work at reputable places so an agent might find you and make a good following for yourself. Place stuff in a document file under poems to be . . . and keep it handy. Once you have typed in about a hundred poems, print them after editing, spellchecking etc. I found putting them into some sort of logical (or illogocal depending upon the category, i.e. sci-fi, fantasy, romance, adventure, horror) you focus your work on, get it out to places that will truly appreciate you. I am afraid www.poetry.com is not one of those places.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I've read a lot that this site is a scam. I know a site where you can join for free (or upgrade for perks like online classes)). It has contests and you can be critiqued for your work. I'll PM you the site since I'm not sure if I can post it for referral.
