do you think people can really trade for a living?

I have always been bombarded by advertisements on the newspapers whenever I flipped the pages. It says "I made millions from $10,000 only", "$1,000 profits in 1 day's trade" and so on. I eventually studied the market and start to do some tradings on my own. All short term (days) trading ended mostly in losses while those I have hold and invested for weeks to months make great profits. My conclusion, investment (over a longer period) makes more consistent profits than day trading. Do you agree?? Anyone traded successfully out there and make big money?? Lets share our experiences.
