Winter is coming and it's starting to get cold in the parts of the world that get cold. Here is Eastern Canada we can definitly feel winter in the air. So, with the ever rising costs of energy and home heating fuels, how do you plan on going about heating your home this year? Will you use electric heat? Oil? Wood? Pellets? Propane? Coal? We have electric baseboard heaters in our home but we do not use them. We also have a woodstove and a supply of wood for the winter that came with our house. We plan to try to use onyl wood to heat our home, as we used electricity last year in our old apartment and it raised our power bill by like $300 a month and it wasn't even warm in our house. So tell me your plans. What type of heating do you use in your house? Are you happy with it or do you plan to get something different one day?

We use Gas. It really dosent cost to much if we keep it around 66-68 in the house. I also put plastic over all the windows and I use small electric heaters at night for the kids. The plastic has saved so much. The first year I had gas I didnt use plastic and the bill was 300+ a month. The next year we used plastic and our bill was only 125 a month. BIG diffrence!! Now that I have moved into a bigger home I will definatly be using plastic and keeping the heat at 68.

We put plastic on our windows too. Right now it's only on the basement windows.....which are the bedroom windows.....but we are going to put plastic over most of our windows before the end of the month. We will just leave the window by the wood stove and the one in the bedroom uncovered to allow them to be opened for temperature and humidity control.

Right now the downstairs is heated by gas in which I hate because it's so costly and we hope to convert it to a heat pump which we just found out it won't be hard to do - wonderful! Our upstairs has a separate unit and it's a heat pump however we keep the temperture down low so as to keep the bill down. I heard on the news that oil prices are going up this winter about 20%, gas is going up 10% and electric 5% soooo knowing that, we're going to do our best to beat the system any way we can. I wish we had a wood stove but we don't - darn it! lol

It's an electric furnace is all I know and the kind I'd much rather have downstairs but I don't. I have it upstairs though. It's the way the house was when we bought it.

Well we live in a apartment so we have a furnace for heat...unfortunately the landlord is cheap and turns the heat off or turns it really low..so we are forced to used electric heaters at times.....but either way we will be warm....

hear in Pennsylvania it is getting pretty cold.. i had to light our furnise the other night because it was getting down in the 30's...as far as heating we use propane it is alot cheeaper than natural gas..i would say i am very satisfies with it, we will fill our tank (330 gallon) in november then that will last us till about february befor e we really have to do it again then that will last use till next february.. it really helps when the only thing that uses the propane is the furnace and the stove..thank god my hot water tank is electric,or i would have to fill it more than that probably..lol..

here in norther italy we use boiler and radiator for heating our house.you have to consider that we pay the highest cost for energy in the world...so we are really carreful of energy bill!for example my home, that is new,has all system to avoid heat dispersion,so i no need to fire up the boiler in this month, and i have 65 F° in my house...the next months, that are more cold,i turn on the boiler to a low level,so i realize a energy savings, and my energy bill will not be very high!

So you can imagine that the cost of energi is very high...

I live in south of China .Here is not very cold in winter.without snow and wind .The temperature is always above zero celsius. It will be warm enough for us,when we stay in our room.we havn't to burn wood or other method to let our house warm. But it is also cold outside for us who are used to the weather in south.we wear jacket or fleece if we go out.It is difficult for our hand to get warm so we always use electric goods to keep our hand warm.

You are lucky. I remember one time a few years back when I was walking home from work at 11:30pm holding my mittens over my face to try to keep my nose from freezing and this big stupid electric bill board that I was walking past was flashing the temperature, and it said -27C. I wanted to smash that sign for rubbing it in, because I was still a good 20 minutes from home when I saw the sign.

We heat with natural gas, but are trying to find something that we can use to help defray the cost. We are also putting plastic up to the windows. I hope it helps. I would like to find something that doesn't cost to much to help supplement the furnace.

Cost of heating here in Western New York has gotten absolutely ridiculous! Last October when we had the blizzard we ended up buying a kerosene heater when the power went down and now we use it during the day and evenings to heat the main area of the house and keep the furnace turned down....At night upstairs we heat up with the furnace right before bed for about 1/2 hr then turn the heat down again (just caue I hate getting into a cold bed LOL)....I always make sure everyone has clean sweaters and slippers/socks etc and that all the blankets are clean and we just bundle up ya know...

Here in Beijing China, we should pay the heat fee in winter in the apartment. The cost is according to your apartment area.

This will be the second winter we have spent in this apartment and last year we loved the heating here so I figure this year will be pretty much the same.
We have all electric heat and I keep the thermostat at about 68 all winter and it is toasty warm in here. Our electric bill only goes up by about $30-$50 a month b/c we have great insulation here.
My Mom has a big old house and they heat with propane. It runs her about $250 every 14-16 days to heat the house.
My oldest brother uses natural gas and although I don't know what it runs exactly...I believe from what he's said that it is around $200 a month.

in our country,we make our home warmer by heating systems.although the winter here is very cold, but it is just when we are outside, when we come into our house, then you will feel a warm air.and in fact,it is so hot inside that we must put off some clothes to prevent heat.because our house is rent,so I do not know how much to get the heat .

Not that this is what we prefer, but we probably are going to go with baseboard in the bedrooms and plug in heater in the bathroom and kerosene in the living room..(we did have a wood burning stove, but the chimney caught fire years ago because the guy we bought the house from didn't line it..:(..)

Hi!
Here in winter, it's not so cold in the daytime. Sometimes a night, it's cold, we use hot water bags to warm feet in the quilt. If it's much colder, we use the electic heating blanket. We turn on the blanket an hour in advance before we go to bed. We don't use it often because it makes us too dry. and it's not good for our health if we use it every day. When it's too cold, we turn on the air-conditioner befoer we go to bed. We turn it off after three to four hours. We can not only save electricity but also warm ourselves.
