Decrease in Quality of Food

I got lazy today and decided to order pizza instead of cooking. This place used to have the best pizza in town when I first discovered it over 10 years ago. I've noticed lately, however, that the product is not nearly as good as it used to be. Is it because once they get a name for having good food they don't try as hard anymore? After giving it some thought, I concluded that some other places don't have the quality of food they used to have. Has anyone else discovered this?

I remember Kentucky Fried Chicken when I was 12, circa 1970. It was the most distinctive tasting fried chicken anywhere. What they sell now is nothing special - It is just plain ordinary fried chicken.
I suppose though that is the way it works. If the majority of people couldn't care less about quality and just go for the cheapest and fastest food around, that is what we are going to get. That's why I mostly go to restaurants now, very rarely to a fast food place unless I am in a BIG hurry. For me it is not worth it unless I just have to have something until I get the opportunity to have real food..

I remember when KFC first became popular, Qaeyious, and the food was really something special then. We used to joke that it truly was "finger-licking good." Now, as you say, it has declined to the level of the ordinary.

I have noticed a decrease in England, especially Chinese & Indian Takeaways.
We Brits don't like to complain or create a scene (we're not all like this but most are) & I think many fast food outlets abuse our trait by slowly decreasing the quality of the food. For example you can get 'Yogurt Sauce' with your Indian Takeaway & I have noticed that some of the restaurants have been 'watering down' the sauce so it goes further! A Indian restaurant was recently shut down as they were found out to be selling the remains of the 'Buffet' the next day! - Nice.
Not all are like this & most are very good but this wasn't a problem say 5 years ago, or at least one that I didn't notice!

As prices rise, ppcdude, the eateries struggle to keep pace by taking short-cuts. If I ran an eating establishment, I would rather close down than serve inferior food to my customers.

This pizza place near place opened last year and they had the best pizza in town. But a few months down the lane, I discovered that the quality was going done. Now, I've stopped ordering there. But most of the well known places here near my place maintain their standard. This was the first instance of the quality of a well-known brand going down (in my experience). The prices might fluctuate but the quality of most of the places remain the same or they try to make it better (tough competition).

That's another thing, SViswan, it seems that while the quality is going down, the prices are rising at some of these places.

Yes, gabs, they should realize that it is the quality of the product that brought them fame in the first place-and try and maintain that degree of quality.

I think companies are just becoming more stingy and realize why pay more for a tastier cheese when you can get double the amount for the same price (though it does not taste as good). I too realized the the quality of food has decreased, especially in fast food restaurants because now a days the whole idea is to have the food done fast, regardless of taste. I used to love eating at this diner a few years back, but now that I went a lot of the food just tasted horrible. It was quite different.....

I just hate it when they stop caring about the consumer, EroeMorto! Consistency is the best when it comes to food quality.

I have.
8 years ago, there was this small time burger place with the best burgers. Eventually, the business grew and they started to franchise. I went there again recently and oh my goodness!! What have they done? The burger patties were so small, thin and dry while the buns were each as thick as my fist. I couldn't even taste the meat anymore.
I have to agree. Sometimes, when the place gets a name for having good food, you end up simply buying the brand. Remember how much better Starbucks tasted a few years back?

Yes, funk00shark, I think there is a lot to be said for staying small and homey.

This happens all the time. There are very few places which manage to keep their food consistently good.We went to go eat out at our favorite Chinese place a few days ago.....just to find out that the food wasn't as good as it used to be.I'm not really sure why this happens.....because they still offer the same foods as before and I would think that if something works and people like it....they would not change it.
Pizza Hut changed their dough for a little while and my guess is it didn't go over to well.....because they went back to the original.
What always amazes me is that you can go to any one of the big chain restaurants or fast food places and you will never find two where the food tastes the same.
My guess is....it depends on the people working in the kitchen....weather they are good at what they are doing and care about the food they put out.

Yes i have noticed that, some good places that served quality food now ....you know the answer.I think that at first they served quality food because they wanted to make a name people to come buy,but after they become ...how to say ...famous they stopped making good ones.
