I live in a house surrounded by treesthis is beautiful all year round especially now but as I look out the window I see what was once up is now down. Yes my treasured garden is now awash with fallen leaves. So the dilemma is when to I get my act together and go out and clear them up (or better still send hubby). Do I sweep everyday - keeps it looking tidy but oh so tiring. Wait till they are are all down and do a mass sweep. Pray to the god of blown leaves that he moves them all to the neighbours yard and out of mine. Or wait till Spring and tell myself they create a protective mulch for over winterign my plants.
What are your "shortcuts" and plans for this tiring task?

Get a full blower. To save your time sweeping the yard. I have the same problem too its pretty annoying coz i love to see the garden /yard with no leaves so what my hubby did he used a blower and blew the leaves out of the gutters. And we just sweep that one time.
And i know its tiring..i also gave the same comment about how tiring it is but to give myself a break i just make a schedule better..less stress..more task Done!

Oh dear my reply will show my mean side but I have to admit when it comes to buying gadgets, Like a leaf blower, I have a problem getting something that I can only use once or twice a year! Though I suspect after a couple of hours raking I really might change my attitude and reply lol. I certainly normally only do the job once waiting until every last leaf is down before starting - too depressing to do it one day and find them all back the next!

LOL why is it men only do a job if the "tool" has a motor attached. I will resist the urge to say sucker if he has already done the job four times .... he must be having fun! As I already said I wont be out there huffing and puffing till the last lil leaf is off the last tree.

I don't do anything with them and I think it's a waste to throw them in the trash. I have seen people chop them up with the lawn mower, others gather them and spread them on their gardens and cover with a layer of straw. The only time I have ever raked leaves was so we could play in them...and then it wasn't a "tiring task"! :)

Totally agree that it is a waste to put them into the trash. If I only had a few and they were dry I'd probably love too play n kick em up but with so many its depressing lol even if hubby cuts them up they still need raking as we don't have a tractor with a bag so there is no getting away from it eventually I am goning to have to rake rake rake!

I usually do the clean up when someone comes to the door and offers to do it for some cash!lol I don't mind doing stuff around the house but clean the leaves is a miserable job especially when wet. Then you got all the raking and bending over to pick up the leaves. I guess it isn't really to bad when you have a small yard but I remember when I was like 15 years old and my parents would want me to rake it would take hours because our yard was so big. Now I can just get the leaf blower out and blow it into a pile and there is a guy here who'll come and bag it and take it away for composting so it all works out.

LOL that's cheating but a wonderful idea ...... unfortunately living in the back of beyond casual callers let alone ones offering to do jobs are very few and far between. MY problem is that it isn't a small yard and beyond it are more n more trees whose leaves all seem to make it into our yard ........well thats how it feels to chief raker ME.
