If you have a dog do you go to a professional groomer? If you don't would you?

When I had my little Buttercup I had made an appointment to have her groomed and forgot to cancel it when I lost her :(
They just called to remind me so that's the end of that! I was going to try to groom her myself but when I brushed her I knew I wasn't doing the best job and decided a professional groomer would be the way to go.
If you have a dog do you bring it to a groomer or do you do it yourself? If you don't have a dog would you bring it to a groomer?

I would only go to a groomer if a) my dog were long haired and therefore, needed to go to a groomer or b) my dog fell into a grease pit and therefore, HAD to go to a groomer!

I don't have a breed that requires professional grooming so I do all the basic grooming necessary myself. If I did get a breed that requires trimming I would go see a groomer but I generally don't like dogs that need to be trimmed so it's unlikely I will ever be in that position.

The puppy I had definately needed a professional groomer. She was a pomeranian and had an awesome coat.

I don't ever use a groomer. Both my dogs are short haired, so grooming is very easy. Mind you, they love the grooming they rarely get.
My sister in law always used to use a groomer for her maltese/shitzu. Her last appointment went very badly & she never used a groomer again.
As the groomer was trimming her hair, she accidently gave the dog a nasty cut. There was a lot of bleeding. The groomer raced her off to the vet, but it wasn't stitched. When my sisterinlaw returned, she found out what had happened. he wasn't happy with the dogs cut, so took her off to the vet again. As there are two vets in the area, both denied having seen the dog earlier. One of them stitched up the poor dog, & she had to wear an elizabethan collar.'
My sister in law has never taken her dog to a groomer again.

My dog is very short haired and doesn't require trimming of her fur. I bathe her myself and trim all her nails myself. She is such a good girl and sits perfectly still when I trim her nails. However, there are times she gives me a look that asks, "How much longer is this going to take, Mama?" Then I know she is more than ready to run around and play!
PEACE

We had two cocker spaniels in which at first we did take them to the groomers for we didn't know any better but it got to be too expensive so we bought some sheers at WalMart which turned out to be a joke. So we got some advice from the groomers at Petsmart and we bought a pair there which cost us a little over a $100. but figured every time we took them to the groomers, it would cost us $50. or more so when we used the sheers two to three times, they paid for themselves. The only thing though is to remember they get hot really quick and cause burns on the dogs so they need a cool down time and the spray to help them do so which works like a charm. Our babies have gone over the Rainbow Bridge now in which we miss them something awful but at least they're free of the shavings and skin problems that both had especially our buff colored one. They were wonderful wonderful dogs!

I currently have no dogs at the moment...
But when I do get my dogs for training school, I will take them to a groomer if they have long fur & require it. I'm still not sure of what breed I'll get, but like a Rottie, no, I wouldn't take them to a groomer because there's no need when I can do it all myself.
Of course eventually I'll be able to do it all myself anyway because I plan to attend groomnig school at some ponit after professional dog trainer school! :-D

I have a Mini-poodle and he needs to go to the groomer. We have done the grooming ourselves several times but he just does not like it when we do it. He likes it when the groomers does it he is a very pampered pooch and it is just right the dog is 10 years old in human years and he deserves some spoiling. He is like one of my children and my best friend.

I personnally have a golden retriever, she is the runt of the litter though, so she is more like a lap dog, but I do go to a professional, mostly because I used to live right next to her before I moved.
