Alright, I think I have somehow poisoned myself. I soooo feel like it. Ive had a headache since last night before I went to bed. I feel terrible!!!
Why do you think Ive poisioned myself your asking???
Well, I had this INCREDIBLE urge for some chocolate chip cookies ok....so I went to the store yesterday after noon and I got what I didnt have. Well I thought I had baking SODA, but I had baking POWDER....but ah...I have baking soda in the fridge. Ok granted its been there for about 3 months freshening my fridge, but its dry, its been fridgerated....its ok right????? I only used a half teaspoon!!!
Does anyone know?? Does baking soda go bad??? Does it or can it mess with your body and make you feel ill???? Do I NEED a Doctor?!?!??! Poison Control?!!?!?!
Pleas no jokes, Im really serious...or do you think Im just over reacting and Im just coming down with a sinus infection or something?? Im having a hard time watching the screen so if there is any typos, Im sorry, Im really trying to type this with both or at least one eye closed *sigh*

Yeesh...between you and me we're the walking wounded...I woke up to a humdinger of a sore arm and the moment I got up, just wanted to crawl back into it...I was supposed to go to a great Halloween party too tonight..but had to bow out..
With that baking soda?? I hardly doubt if such a little bit of baking soda from the fridge would do that to you--probably sounds more like a bug you might be coming down with--as far as the baking soda going back..is there an expiration date on it?? Somehow we the way we're both feeling I think we're going to make it an early night...I'm hoping I feel better tomorrow as I have too many darn things to do!! drat

Oh you poor thing! I hate when I sleep on my arm wrong or do my neck wrong. I hope you feel better tomorrow too. I know I hope I do.
I just didnt know what kind of chemical reaction it might have. LOL I guess I could have called poision control, but I thought myLot might be better! LOL I am sick!! ;o) I havent felt too sick to my stomach, just a terrible head ache at the top of my skull and down all over my temples and forehead. I cant lie down very well, and the PC is really not helping, but I cant sleep and Im bored! LOL Geesh.
I didnt see an exp date on it. LOL Ok I dont think I looked really hard, maybe its older than I think and theres not telling how old it is!? I hope its not the baking soda.

I have no clue, but I really don't think it's the baking soda. I've used it from the fridge before and not had any problems. It might be from your late night of being plussed last night??? Seriously, if you don't eat sweets much, it could be the sugar that's doing it. Then again if you do eat a lot of sugars, then it could be the sugar that's giving you the headache... It's strange that sometimes when we crave something it's because our body is missing something - or we're just PMS-ing...
I do hope you're feeling a bit better soon!!
Hey, maybe if you quit bashing your head apart on the keyboard you'd be ok...
sorry - don't mean to make light of your pain, but maybe a few giggles will help ya out???
Take care!!!

LOL Thats about how my head feels right now!
I dont know, I just got too thinking after my head started hurting really bad that maybe it sucked up all the bad odors in the fridge and it did something to me. I mean its on the verge of feeling like a migraine without the nausea.
I turned the brightness down on my monitor just so I could stand to look at the screen. Other than my head hurting like mad, I feel alright. Thanks for the giggle, Im sure I will be better, I hope!! lol

I called the hospital and poision control about 2am. LOL I couldnt even lie down and get comfy my head hurt so bad!! It was like 4am before I ever fell alseep, I woke up feeling like my old self again! ???? I really am not sure what was going on with me. I panicked thats for sure! Ive had a reaction to some things and thats just how I felt too, like I had be infested with something. I had felt fine up until I ate the cookies.....and I had contemplated using the soda thinking it could be bad....but Poison control said that they had never heard of anyone getting ill from it. Im just happy I feel better!
Hugs!! Bay xx

Baking soda has an indefinite shelf life if it's stored correctly. That is a sealed containter in a cool dry place.
Baking soda is not going to make you sick.
Even if not properly stored typical storage time in 8-12 months.
You really are fine, in the case of the baking soda.
and just so you know I'm not yanking your chain, I used to be a culinary arts major and i currently work in a library, we have lots of knowledge.
I think you're just getting sick.

Thank you Ray!
I didnt know what to think. Had I not had second guessed myself before putting it in the cookies, I may not have thought twice about it causing my headache. But I had this headache for 30+ hours! Ive only felt that bad like that one other time I can recall, and I had an over exposure to the chlorine in a pool I had to use for rehab once. It lasted like 3 days and I did have to go see a Dr over it.
So with that incident in the back of my mind, the hesitation in the first place and feeling this way almost immediatly after eating the cookies, I thought for sure it was the baking soda. I didnt associate it with a migraine, cos with those Im vomitting, I only felt slight nausea. LOL Its really funny now, but it sure wasnt funny while my skull was throbbing!
I feel fine today, so what ever it was is gone, and Im back to my old self....:o)

I am pretty sure the only thing old baking soda from the fridge is going to do is maybe make the cookies taste funny from the smells it has been absorbing. I broke down and used it once, but it hadn't been in there that long. I am sure you are fine.

Hi Lilybug,
Ive been trying to look around the net for something....but nothing saying it could or would make you ill. Ive been really worried that this might be because of the baking soda, cos I felt fine up until I ate a few of them last night.
I just feel like Ive been run over! The cookies themselves tasted fine, the best cookies that I think I have made! lol I hope your right, thank you!!

Recently I was camping in the wilderness and drank from a spring that I didn't feel real confident about. Then when I got a cat hair in my mouth later, I thought it was a parasite. Then the next day a girl came to my site and started telling me a story out of the blue about a case of parasites she got from drinking spring water. Oh my god! Now I was certain I had got parasites. I started feeling ill, my stomach was churning and burbling and felt like it was going to explode. I felt feverish. I had to lie down even. I finally just decided that I was fine, that one measly time taking one measly sip out of a POSSIBLY contaminated spring was not going to kill me, or even hurt me... and the next thing I knew every symptom I had been experiencing was gone. The power of the mind is a truly amazing thing! And while I'm not saying that it's all in your mind, I am suggesting that it quite possibly is.

And another thing... just the other day (I've been sitting at my computer for so long now I've lost track of time and I don't really know WHAT day it was)... anyway, I had made a loaf of 'Ukranian Rye Bread'. The only ingredients were yeast, rye flour, buckwheat flour and strong coffee, but it was not a success and the outside was hard as a rock and the inside was a little gummy, but I wanted it to be good so badly that I ate a slice anyway, and when I went to bed at 6AM I was feeling a little nauseated. I vaguely remembered reading somewhere years ago that eating undercooked bread could make you sick, and so very co-operatively my body began to feel sicker. And then I realized that it was 6AM, I had been up since early the previous morning, and had drunk an entire pot of coffee as well. I finally fell asleep and woke up the next day still alive! I felt like doing a jim carey imitation... throwing my arms up to embrace the sky while shouting "I'm alive!!!"

Yeah, well, I'm gonna cube that bread up, toast it, and use it for croƻtons in my salads. And I was exaggerating about the coffee, well, not actually exaggerating. But when I make a pot of coffee I only make about 4 to 6 cups, usually 4, so that to me is an entire pot. Plus, I had to give up real coffee and switch to decaf. My daughter won't even talk to me when I drink the real thing... and she always knows within a couple of minutes of our conversation... she says "have you been drinking coffee?!" And I have to sheepishly answer "yes" in a wee little voice.
I normally like to make 'high protein' bread that has tons of ingredients like whole wheat flour, soy flour, wheat germ, oat bran, oatmeal... all kinds of stuff, but I'm trying to avoid wheat for right now, thus the Ukranian Rye Bread...

I don't know about baking soda, but if you are feeling something bad like you feel like you have headache, you stomach is aching or you are vomiting, then there's a possibility that you are poisoned, but if you don't feel any of the symptoms, then you're fine. Just relax...

I dont know about baking soda either, sort of why I was asking around. I really hope Im not ill from it, the cookies are really good and I would have to throw them all out if I coulndt eat them. Dont want my hubby feeling ill from them too. Ill have him eat one when he gets home 2morrow and see if he gets sick too.

I don't know if you poisoned your self but I am sure you didn't help , that baking soda has been absorbing all the odors and contaminates in your fridge, I am pretty sure it was the baking soda that caused you head ache, next time try having a soda or something when you do not have the proper ingredients. I think it was the equivalent of using dirty water compared to fresh clean water, no so good for you

Hi Robin,
Yeah see I thought about it, I had it in the teaspooon and hesitated!! Then I smelled it again, and it didnt smell, and then thought, should I just get back out to the store, nah I used it anyway. lol I bought some new last night while we were at the store and not the kind to freshen your fridge just a plain old box of it. I feel much better now! If it was the baking soda, it wont be again!!
I did learn that it doesnt go bad as long as its kept in a cool dry place.
Thank you! Bay xx
