How do you change your avatar to a picture---please help

I have looked and looked, and I can't figure out to change my avatar to a picture. I have the perfect picture picked out for it. And how do you upload a photo for a discussion? I have been here for a while and just have not figured this out yet Anyone---please help

Go to "edit your preferences " on the left and upload the avatar link, ..good luck, I had to ask that question a few times mysef at the start...

Thank you, I needed to do something besides look at that green thing they call an avatar.
