What are we going to do?

The cost of crude oil went up again, so we can expect gas to go even higher. How are the people up north who use gas to heat their homes going to afford this? Will this put our older citizens in the poor house with more losing their homes and even their life? Will there be more people on welfare? What are we to do? What ever happened to the oil coming from Alaska? What purpose was the work done on the pipelines coming from there? Are we utilizing what we have here in the United States or are they just letting the oil rigs sit idle? We are an oil rich country so why do we buy foreign oil?

Unfortunately we are not an oil rich country. We have a few oil deposits across the nation, such as Alaska, and off the coast of Texas, but those are pretty much it, so we buy from foreign countries. We don't get oil from Alaska as much anymore because all the spills in the past decade got the environmental watchdogs in an uproar, so we did basically do all that work on those lines there for nothing because the watchdogs balk anytime we talk about getting oil from there. And my estimation about the prices going ever upward overseas, is that Bush made a lot of people mad with this ongoing war that was supposed to have ended two years ago says him, so now they are charging the US more for oil. I swear I cannot wait til January when Bush will be gone and we will have someone else to deal with, hopefully smarter and not as war hungry.

I did not know that we have all these places with oil in the US. I totally agree with you, the government fat cats, including Bush, are getting fatter off of our dismay. I can't believe that there are people getting paid not to work. I am so moving to Canada if yet another Bush gets into office.

I would hope that most of this country had learned their lesson from this administration and would be more careful who they voted in. Of course I was sure the idiot wouldn't get a second tern and some how he managed to get right in there.

OH we know how he got in there.... We people in Florida are still trying to figure out where our votes went. Now just where did that truck go that had all those boxes of votes in them disappear to. Never got the recount done and we are the #4 biggest voting state in the USA. We should have demanded another re-vote when those boxes got "lost"

The oil price in my country raised yesterday. Many people went to gas station before the rise. But to most of us, we can afford it. The big problem is not the oil price but the shortage of diesel fuel. Because during this season farmers are working hard for agriculture, they use machines to harvest. It caused the shortage of diesel fuel. I see many trucks stop in gs stations to wait for fueling.

Even us over here always worry when winter comes. It could get up to 40 degrees below zero. Gas is always high at this time of the year. I personally have been wearing sweaters and socks at home so that I don't feel too cold and don't have to turn the heater on too high

Oh my! Thank God it only get cold enough for me to turn on the heater about 2 to 3 weeks where I am. We only have about 2 or 3 days where the winter gets as low as 32 degrees. Right now it is around 78 and breezy. Very nice.

Where I live in Canada we are paying over 5.00 a gallon for car gas and goodness knows what it'll cost this winter for gas to heat our home. Thank goodness we just have a two bedroom house, mind you we have a basement too. Last winter fr the coldest months of the winter our heating bill for natural gas was almost 300.00 a month for about 5 months and we don't keep the house warm enough really to what most people would like and we have a new furnace energy efficient, tight fitting windows and doors. So what I did was I called the gas company and I told them there was no possible way in the world we could pay those prices with me not able to work and my husband working for a low wage. I told the lady I would pay as much as I could each month and I guess if that's not satisfactory than cut me off. I paid as much as I possibly could and they accepted that. I did get the bill caught up but here's the kicker I'm now totally caught up and old man winter is back at the door so here we go again. Can't win. The thing that annoys me the worse is the fact that gas is a natural resource in our country they're pumping it out of the ground every day and no one can explain to me why we have to pay what we do. It just doesn't make sense to this ol' girl. I'm done heheheh Bye

If this is "progress" I think we need to rethink about moving forward and go back to using wood stoves and growing more trees...Put the unused land to work for human kind.

it is high time to look at the alternate energy resources. That may the magic band to come out of this dilemma.

We could all get the kit and start using water for fuel I have been reading about this for months now and I am just about ready to try it. Watch the video on my blog about "Water for gas" http://i-know-do-you-know.blogspot.com

We do this with the purchasing of oil because we are Americans and want to help out other countries. That's my thoughs anyhow. It's over $3 a gallon here for gas in Minnesota. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

From everything I read the U.S. has not open up the pipelines in Alaska and other places due to environmental concerns. I think a lot of people wants the cheaper oil, but not at the risk of endangering wildlife. I think people are resourceful, and they will find ways to overcome the outrageous oil prices. I know I have cut back a lot. I try to combine all my errands so I don't use to much gas. I stock pile some wood for the fire place also. We as a country need to come up with some viable alternative fuel sources so we are no longer dependent on foreign countries.

If this keeps up we are all going to be using fireplaces like in the old days before we even knew about oil. Hope they start growing more oats so I can feed the horse that's going to have to pull the buggy!...hee hee... Maybe the Amish knew something we didn't.

I am not happy about the gas prices. My husband and I already carpool to work and drive as little as possible. It is hurting us. Our salaries have not kept up with the cost of living and gas has not helped.

For those that have to drive to work this will be bad for them. For a person who makes minimum wage it will be even worse. With the cost of gas and paying tax they would be better off on welfare. Now I see why some would rather not work...there is no way they could live on what they made.

Everything in general is goin gup in the United States. Our country is in such shambles right now. I was reading an article in the newspaper yeaterday about natural gas and propane prices rising in my area 10%. We heat and cook with the company that had the most expensive price hike as if the bills we get each month weren't outragious enough. Columbia gas is charging almost $11 per cubic square foot (I think that is how it is measured). We have heating assistance programs in my state thankfully and out govener ups the budget on it if the demand is higher then what money they have. They provide assistance once in November and once in January if you need it. The only problem is that it is income based and if you aren't recieving state assistance you do not qualify. I know a lot of people that do not receive state assistance that still have trouble covering heating cost each year. It is such a shame that many people will literally have to freeze this winter because they can't afford to heat their homes.
