Sometimes I am amazed at how petty people can be! I had a coworker to bring a 'kitty litter cake' to work for Halloween. Many people turned up their noses and stated, "That is just disgusting" and wouldn't even taste it! For those who don't know, it is a cake that is made to look like a cat's litter box. I have included a picture. What is up with people?! The lady of course had used a brand new 'box' and a brand new 'scooper'. The ingredients are all edible foods. Would you have eaten it?

If I wasn't horribly allergic to chocolate, I'd most definitely eat it! We've made this cake for halloween parties before, and it was always a hit (and prime fodder for good joking around.) Of course the pan and all is new, what do they think, it's contaminated by association? Hahaha, people truly are funny! Reminds me of the baby shower game where you melt different types of chocolate bars on brand new, unused, diapers...then the guests have to guess what the candy bar was by tasting it. (Some people don't want to do that either, lol) I think the kitty litter cake is fun! Too bad there are those that "poo pooh" the idea hahahaha

My daughter and wife had been to a few baby showers and I've
never heard of this game. That would be hilarious to watch.

I would have eaten it for sure...what's up with people these days...can't they take a joke???
I though Halloween was about ghosts etc, I didn't realise it was about gross food as well. Or is that the "trick" part?

I can't get a crazy photo to work...I don't know what is wrong! (I tried again on my response to Grandpa Bob.) Here is a link that has a picture as well as a recipe!

Was it a vanishing cake? I couldn't find the picture but if you are like me who forgets always to add photos to my images then I'll let you off! The name sounds disgusting admittedly because it brings to memory just what a cat litter box consists of, however if you were to tell me it had chocolate in it, then the name wouldn't worry me. If it's chocolate it can be called anything I'll have a piece!

It is probably no more disgusting than the dirt cakes served up in flower pots. I probably would have tried it, as long as it did not smell like what it looked like. I enjoy a good laugh. It sounds like SOME of your co workers do too. I am curious about what was in it, and also, of course, curious, Did you eat it?

Yeah buddy I ate it! It is basically a chocolate sheet cake....and the 'icing' has various things to make it look like litter. Then there are melted tootsie rolls scattered on top and through it to look like cat feces!
Seeing as how I can't seem to get a photo to upload (I tried again on my response above to Grandpa Bob) here is a link to a picture of the cake: http://www.fabulousfoods.com/recipes/dessert/cakes/kittylittercake.html

So I just saw this discussion. That's just ridiculous that your co-workers would not eat it...and I'd have felt very sorry for your co-worker who took the time to make it. I'm one of those people, who makes things for my co-workers and I'd hate if they didn't eat something. I've thought of making that cake before, but I never did because it was just too much effort for me to do for my co-workers.
That is sad though.

My sister in law is like that, and she misses out on some really delicious stuff because of it. Yes, I would have eaten it if I knew the person to be a clean cook. There are some peoples cooking I won't eat and it isn't because of the way something looks or is called. I actually think that the kitty litter cake was a great idea especially for cat lovers. I would have tried to make a with cupcakes and stuff and used tootsie rolls that been cute..What did she use to give it a kitty litter texture? coconut? nerds? I think it is a good idea and I think I will use it. It would make a great April Fool's cake..You know in them stuck ups not eating it just left more for those who did and they missed out on a good thing. That idea would be good to give someone who just got a cat so then when the cake gone they can use the stuff. Thanks for the ideas I appreciate them and tell your co-worker thanks.

My guess is that they are people who were never required to try new foods when they were children. I would give it a try. Cake is cake.

Yes, I would have. It's all food, and it's all tasty, but, I guess it just looks too real for some people. It probably just turns them off.

LOL I have seen this before and it does look terrible but it is good. I have eaten it before. LOL They do so many weird things for halloween these days. I heard that halloween is the second largest commerical holiday. Christamas is the first.

This sounds like fun, I would love to make something like this..in fact..I just copied all of those recipes to my cookbook...I think this would be fun to bring to a party..I know I would enjoy it.
I know someone who beautifully decorated a styrofoam 'cake' for a party. The host, who at first thought it was a real cake...got real excited over it, when he cut into the cake he realized he was the victim of a joke...but he saved the day..he ate the styrofoam cake.
What a guy!

I am not sure. It is the look of food as well as the taste that get to people. I make jello in rubber gloves I took from the hospital where I worked. I maked the recipe of jello gigglers and I put gummy worms in the fingers and hands for veins. They where good but I surely grossed out some of the big strong men at the party.
I would have to see the cake before I could answer your question.

Yes, I would have! lol. We saw a pic of one a few years ago, and while we said that's gross (had cats at the time, so....)we both laughed and said that it would still taste yummy! I thought it was neat! Really creative! I also saw one a few weeks ago that was a human skull. Brain and blood included! lol.

I have seen those cakes before and think they are absolutely hillarious. As long as I knew the ingredients of the cake I would absolutely have tried it, just so I could say I did. lol Some people have no sense of humor. I do not like to spend time being around people who don't appreciate something funny.

Yes, I would have tried it. It is funny that people are like that. It was a halloween cake, it was their loss.

I've seen them and although it's kind of cute on one hand...since I have a cat, it would gross me out some. There used to be a mud cake too that you make to look like mud and you add gummy worms to it.

i would have taken a piece to be polite and then dumped it in the trash when they were not looking..these people are just goof balls and this is very childish..so just take the cake and throw it away later...its not worth the battle
